Oregon enters this contest having routed rival Washington 45-20, while Cal nearly walked away victorious as well, but ultimately fell 36-34 to UCLA. The Ducks will try to ride the momentum they have from last weekend, while the Golden Bears will look to bounce back quickly following the disappointing loss.

Oregon

The Oregon Ducks have a number of star players to be found on this roster, starting with Marcus Mariota. The Heisman candidate quarterback will lead this team week in and week out, but we now know how good this team is with Jake Fisher back in the lineup.

Never heard of Jake Fisher? That’s okay. You’re not alone. He’s an offensive lineman who doesn’t get much credit, but when he was out against Arizona, the team looked far different than it did upon his return last weekend.

Along with Mariota and Fisher, true freshman Royce Freeman making a name for himself. He had four touchdowns on the ground last weekend, and he’ll be even more important against Cal, as fellow tailback Thomas Tyner is suffering from a reported shoulder injury.

California

California walked away with a loss last weekend against UCLA, but the two-point loss was good enough for a win against the spread.

Against Oregon, the Golden Bears defense will need to be on top of its game to come away with another ATS victory. Oregon is averaging 43.6 points per contest, which is a problem considering Cal is only the 120th team in the nation in terms of points allowed this season.

Where Cal will look to do its damage is on offense– and more specifically, through the air. Despite being just 108th this season in rushing, the team is 10th in points per game (41.6) because of the 372.1 yards per contest it’s accumulating through the air — the third-best number in the country.

Cal surprised a lot of people by keeping up with UCLA’s offense last week, but late-game execution ended up going in the Bruins’ favor. Now the team has a chance to make up for it, as the spread is in favor of Oregon by 16 points to open up the week.

Week 9 NCAA Football

Although getting a win against Oregon seems unlikely here, a win ATS isn’t outside the realm of possibility. A 16-point spread could be difficult for Oregon to achieve on the road, but all that said, the talent level is on the Ducks’ side.

The biggest factor in this game will be Oregon’s pass defense. We know the Ducks are going to score, but the question is: Can they keep the Golden Bears from doing the same.

At this point, give the edge to Oregon. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu is one of the best corners in the country, and Eric Dargan has four interceptions on the year.

Oregon’s pass defense has struggled throughout the year, but one or two big plays from the aforementioned playmakers could be enough to push momentum late in the contest.
