This will be a matchup between two teams looking to ride momentum from last week. Both are headed into a bye after this one with nearly half the season officially behind us.

Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes are a very good team, but they’re just not the same without their Heisman candidate quarterback leading the way.

So far this season, Ohio State is averaging 42.8 points per game. That number is good enough for 14th in the nation, and it’s a direct result of averaging 279.8 yards per game through the air (38th in the nation) and 241.5 yards per game on the ground (23rd).

Defensively, this group is giving up 20.0 points per contest, which is good enough for 33rd in the nation. The team is just 65th in passing yards allowed per game, which is due to a shaky secondary, but it is 14th in passing yards allowed because of a strong defensive line.

Against Maryland, expect a balanced attack, but look for the Buckeyes to exploit a poor run defense. The Terrapins are 102nd in the nation at defending the run, which is a recipe for trouble against the 23rd-best running team.

Maryland

This is a big game for the Terrapins, if for no other reason than its their first home game as a member of the Big Ten.

Throw in the fact that it’s against a powerhouse opponent, and you should end up with a crowd that is ready explode from the initial kickoff.

So far this season, Maryland is doing its offensive damage through the air. It is 49th in the nation in passing yards per game, opposed to 80th on the ground, as it’s racked up 262.4 yards per game passing compared to 155.2 per game running.

In total, the Terrapins are averaging 36.8 points per contest, which is 42nd in the nation. Defense, however, is where this team is excelling, giving up just 19.8 points per contest to its opponents.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 6-2 in OSU last 8 conference games.
  • OSU are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in October.
  • OSU are 35-16 ATS in their last 51 games on grass.
  • Over is 20-8 in MD last 28 games on grass.

Week 6 NCAA Football

Ohio State won’t have the same kind of path to victory against Maryland as it had against Cincinnati, but it should come away with a win straight up.

Maryland has been very good defensively, but it’s yet to be tested the way it will be come Saturday.

Free NCAA Betting Pick 4* Ohio State -8.5

The Buckeyes should walk away with a double-digit win in this one. A spread above two touchdowns would make fans a bit nervous, but anything under 10 is favorable heading into the weekend.

Look for the Buckeyes to spoil the Terrapins’ first-ever Big Ten home game, and look for them to do it in relatively convincing fashion.
