Fresno St.

After dropping three of their first four games to begin the the 2014 campaign, the Bulldogs (3-3) recorded their second straight victory in a 24-13 defeat of visiting San Diego State last week.

Fresno State turned in a solid defensive effort, holding Aztec’s backup quarterback Nick Bawden to just 84 passing yards, while picking him off twice. San Diego State struggled to get the ball moving, tallying just 270 total yards.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs’ offense had its own problems moving the football down the field, totaling just 315 offensive yards for the game. They did however, put together a few long drives that led to a couple of scores.

Leading the offensive charge for Fresno State were the Marteze Waller and Brian Burrell, who combined for 118 yards on the ground. Burrell also passed for 143 passing yards, connecting on 14-of-28 with one interception.

UNLV

The Rebels (1-5) winning woes continued last week, falling 33-10 at San Jose State.

The offense and the defense have struggled this season and it showed once again against the Spartans, who pounded UNLV for 542 yards, while holding them to just 221.

Keith Whitely led the UNLV offense with 79 rushing yards on 13 carries, while Blake Decker connected on just 6-of10 passes for 71 yards.

The Rebs’ also gave Nick Sherry a shot under center, but he also struggled as well, connecting on just 5-of-18, for 45 yards and an interception.

And while the Rebels had trouble both running and passing the football, defensively, UNLV allowed the Spartans to run and pass at will.
