Free Picks: Arizona vs. #2 Oregon Gambling Lines & Handicapping Preview

Week 6: Wildcats vs. Ducks

Week 6 college betting action sees the Arizona Wildcats taking on the No. 2 Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Ore. Cappers Picks provides free college football handicapping tips all season long.

Entering this contest, the Ducks have revenge on the mind. Arizona is the team that knocked them out of the Rose Bowl last season, and a win this time around would vindicate a team looking to qualify for the first-ever College Football Playoffs.

Both teams should have fresh legs for this one. Both are coming off a bye, having not played since Saturday, Sept. 20.

Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats have been ultra efficient on offense this season. They’re scoring 42 points per contest, which is good enough for 16th in the nation, and they’re doing it while excelling both on the ground and through the air.

The Wildcats are 29th in the nation in rushing yards per game (228.0) and eighth in passing yards per game (364.8).

The problem is defense. The team is 77th nationwide; although pat of that is because of a 49-45 (W) shootout Sept. 20 against the California Golden Bears.

Against Oregon, Arizona will need to be better against the pass than it’s been this season. The team is giving up nearly 300 yards per game in that category, and it is just 116th in the country as a result.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, quarterback is where Oregon keeps its Heisman candidate, Marcus Mariota. Arizona needs the showing of a lifetime against the pass if it hopes to contain The Flyin’ Hawaiian.

Oregon

The Oregon Ducks are the No. 2 team in the country for a reason, but their defense is under question following their narrow win over the Washington State Cougars two weeks ago.

The hope in Eugene is that the team has worked on pass defense with the bye week in their favor, as they’re going up against another elite passing offense in the Arizona Wildcats.

Offensively, the Ducks have been beaten and battered on the offensive line. Injuries have hurt this team so far, but that hasn’t stopped the team from being productive.

Passing the ball, Oregon is 16th in the country, tossing for 330 yards per contest. On the ground, the team is 33rd, rushing for 225.3 yards per game.

In total, the Ducks are averaging 48.5 points per game (fourth nationwide) while allowing 21.3 (42nd).

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • ORE are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
  • Over is 35-16-1 in ORE last 52 home games.
  • ORE are 13-6 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • ARIZ are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

Week 6 NCAA Football

Barring a catastrophic showing from the Ducks — not unlike what they put on display last season against the Wildcats — they should walk away with the victory. They have home-field advantage on national television, and the team should be pumped to get a win against the squad that knocked them out of BCS Bowl competition less than a year ago.

The problem for Oregon, as it has been lately, is that it is favored heavily by oddsmakers. This isn’t a concern straight up, but the team hasn’t performed well against the spread as of late.

Free NCAA Betting Pick 4* Oregon -23.5

Knowing what we know about Oregon ATS, it’s easy to shy away from a 23.5-point spread. Then again, it’s going up against a subpar defense at home, so even if the game is close early, expect the Ducks to pull away late.
