Southern Miss

Southern Miss is about to experience a wake-up call following its first win of the season in Week 2. Following a 49-0 loss to Mississippi St. in Week 1, the Golden Eagles bounced back with a 26-20 win over Alcorn State, but now the Alabama Crimson Tide are on the horizon.

[dfads params=’groups=63738&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

In two games, Southern Miss is averaging just 13 points per contest. That number is only good enough for 122nd in the nation.

Defensively, this group isn’t getting the job done the way it needs to against Alabama in order to find success. The team is giving up 34.5 points per game, which is only good enough for 103rd in the nation.

In order to stay close, the Golden Eagles must run the clock. Alabama is an elite team on offense (although you have to say the same thing about the defense as well), so keeping the Crimson Tide off the field is the only way to earn a possible win ATS.

#3 Alabama

[dfads params=’groups=66501&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Crimson Tide are huge favorites in this one, and the raw numbers tell you why. They’re averaging 37 points per game, which is good enough for 49th in the nation. They’re averaging 340 yards per game through the air — good enough for 17th — and they’re averaging 239 yards per game on the ground — good enough for 26th.

On top of all that, this group is giving up just 11.5 points per game, which through the first two weeks is good enough for 14th in the entire country.

Despite dropping one spot in the polls this past week (Oregon jumped Alabama following a win over Michigan State), the Crimson Tide are as elite as it comes.

Nobody is counting out Alabama when it comes to late-season projections based off a Week 3 drop, and it’ll show us why when it faces off against Southern Miss on Saturday.

College football betting trends

  • Over is 13-4 in SOMIS last 17 road games.
  • SOMIS are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 vs. SEC.
  • Under is 10-4 in SOMIS last 14 games in September.
  • Over is 7-3 in ALA last 10 games overall.

Week 3 NCAA Football Spread Prediction

The spread is huge, but it’s one worth considering if you’re leaning toward Alabama. Remember when the Golden Eagles lost by 49 to unranked Mississippi? The Crimson Tide are a completely different beast.

Prediction: 4* Play on Alabama -47.5

Look for the Tide to come out strong, and look for them to make this one ugly well before the clock officially strikes zero.
