While Florida State has put together one of the softest schedules of any of the top teams in the nation at the moment, Notre Dame faces one of the toughest, yet both teams will face off on Saturday night in the weekend’s marquee matchup.

Florida State has the nation’s longest active winning streak going at 22 games following last week’s 38-20 victory in Syracuse. However, that wasn’t enough to keep the Seminoles at the top of the AP poll as they were passed by Mississippi State.

Notre Dame got a bit of a scare last weekend when they found themselves trailing North Carolina in the second half of a high-scoring affair. The Irish had little trouble moving the rock, racking up 519 yards of offense, including 219 yards on the ground and another 300 through the air. Interestingly enough, that’s not all that far off from the team’s average for the season of 444.3 yards per game.

That all starts with junior quarterback Everett Golson, who is completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,683 yards and 16 touchdowns.

He also ranks second on the team in rushing, and has found the end zone an additional four times with his legs.

The Irish churn out 163.8 yards per game, even if they don’t have one single back to lean on, with a trio of rushers sharing the load.

Golson has picked a real favorite through the air, though, as wide receiver Will Fuller has brought in 35 balls for 504 yards and seven touchdowns for the season, including seven catches for 133 yards and a touchdown last weekend against North Carolina.

The Florida State offense can churn out yards as well, rolling out 462.5 of them on a per game basis. The team’s rushing attack isn’t what it was a year ago, but the Seminoles are gaining 324.0 yards per game through the air.

FREE Florida State vs. Notre Dame Pick:

The Seminoles have used a lot of smoke and mirrors to stay near the top of the AP poll, and that starts with facing off against a very soft schedule. Notre Dame is the toughest opponent the Seminoles will face this season, and given the difficulty they’ve had building up margin against the likes of NC State and Syracuse, doing so against a solid Notre Dame squad seems unlikely.

Florida State is 1-6 ATS in its last seven games overall, while the Fighting Irish are 5-0 ATS in their last five games against opponents with a winning record.
