The RedHawks enter this one on a high as the team picked up its first win since 2012 last week. Now they look to carry the wave of momentum created by that success into this MAC battle.

The RedHawks had the nation’s longest active losing streak going at 21 games entering last weekend’s affair, but were able to rally in the fourth quarter to down Massachusetts for the 42-41 victory. As for Akron, wins haven’t been nearly as hard to come by for them, as the Zips won their second game in a row last weekend, downing Eastern Michigan 31-6.

While it took the RedHawks a while to break through, they’ve been right in the thick of each of their last four games, even though Michigan was able to pull away in the latter stages of their meeting on Sept. 13. Prior to last week’s win, the team lost each of its previous two games by only one score. In fact, in last year’s meeting with Akron, Miami-Ohio lost by only one score then as well, falling by a final count of 24-17.

A big reason for the turnaround has been the play of the Miami offense, which has really picked up its play of late. Wide receiver Sam Martin paced the team’s receiving corps with eight receptions for 111 yards last week, and was one of five receivers with five or more catches in the game.

Even so, the Miami offense played a big role in helping the team to the victory thanks to forcing some timely turnovers to get the offense back on the field. The unit forced a total of four turnovers in the game, intercepting UMass quarterback Blake Frohnapfel twice, and recovering a pair of fumbles. They also allowed Frohnapfel to throw for 389 yards, so there’s definitely a lot still to work on.

FREE Akron vs. Miami-Ohio Pick:

Miami-Ohio has steadily gotten better in recent weeks, even though the oddsmakers haven’t quite caught up to that yet. They should give Akron a real run for their money even if they don’t quite do enough to string together a winning streak.

[dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Additionally, these teams would have fallen well short of this total in last year’s meeting, and the under has been a gold mine in recent years when Akron plays against a conference opponent.

Week 7 NCAAF Trends

The RedHawks are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a win, while the Zips are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games.

The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these teams, and it is 20-7 in the Zips’ last 27 conference games.
