The problem for UNC is that they can’t stop anyone from scoring.

The Yellow Jackets are running through teams on their way to an average of 294.7 RYPG (8th). They have one of the worst passing attacks in the nation (144.0 PYPG – 119th), but that hasn’t been a problem yet.

Georgia Tech doesn’t score too many points (33.0 PPG – 49th), but the defense has held up well, as they only give up 25.0 PPG (64th). The defense isn’t on the field much due to the Tech rushing attack.

Zach Laskey and Justin Thomas have both played well this season. Thomas isn’t an accurate passer, but he gets the job done on the ground. He leads the team with 589 rushing yards (6.3 YPC) this season.

Last week showed why turnovers are so important. The Yellow Jackets would likely still be undefeated if they didn’t turn the football over. This week the offense has to ensure they protect the football.

North Carolina allows 191.7 RYPG (95th) and the Yellow Jackets will be able to run the football. I doubt we will see Thomas throw it downfield much except on passing situations to DeAndrew Smelter.

UNC is terrible against the pass as well (316.3 PYPG – 122nd), so it wouldn’t surprise me if Smelter does get involved if this game ends up being closer than I expect. Smelter has had some big games already.

It’s hard to believe how bad the Tar Heels has been. They’re allowing 43.3 PPG (127th), but thankfully they score 37.2 PPG (26th). They put up 43 on Notre Dame last week, but still lost because of their defense.

Marquise Williams has put up big numbers this season. He has 1386 passing yards (11 TD’s) and 375 yards on the ground (3 TD’s). The Tar Heels rank 30th in the country in passing yards (285.0 PYPG).

Tech has only been allowing 200.7 PYPG (26th) and will be able to limit Williams through the air. UNC isn’t a good running team either, so I expect them to lose for the fifth consecutive game.

NCAAF Week 8 Betting Trends:

* GT are 18-7-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
* GT are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games on grass.
* GT are 4-9-2 ATS in their last 15 games in October.
* Under is 7-3 in UNC last 10 conference games.

Free NCCAF Pick: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. North Carolina Tar Heels

Georgia Tech has won the last five years in this H2H series and they’re also 5-0 ATS in that time. Tech just lost to Duke and they need to bounce back, as they can’t afford losing to a weak UNC team.

4* Play on Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets –2.5 (-110)

I expect the Yellow Jackets to focus on the run game and it’s unlikely that the Tar Heels will be able to stop the run the entire game. This point spread is small and I love Georgia Tech to win.
