The loser will likely be out of the SEC title hunt while the winner will keep their hopes alive in a wild SEC race to the finish.

To top it all off, both teams are receiving opposite news prior to this week’s game. For Georgia, star Running Back Todd Gurley is back after a 4 game hiatus for breaking NCAA rules. For Auburn, they received news that they will most likely be without their number one receiver D’haquille Williams.

The good news is that in Gurley’s absence, freshman Nick Chubb did exceptionally well to fill his shoes. And while the loss of Duke Williams is tough for Auburn, they are now left with the same receiving corps that they started last season – not a bad problem to have.

#9 Auburn

While many are dooming the Tigers because of the loss of Williams, Head Coach Gus Malzahn was quick to point out they still have the receiving corps from last year, where they took the SEC title. Quarterback Nick Marshall knows each of his receivers and will have no issue working around the loss.

Williams had 38 catches for 609 yards and 5 touchdowns before going down. Sammie Coates will be the new #1 receiver with Williams out. Coates’ 20 grabs are good for 416 yards and 2 scores so far this season. Next is Quan Bray who has 25 catches for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns.

On the ground, it has been a 2-man wrecking crew for the Tigers. Starting running back Cameron Artis-Payne 208 carries for 1190 yards and 9 touchdowns. He’s also got 90 receptions for 96 yards. After Artis-Payne is Marshall, who has amassed 698 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

Add that to the 114 of 187 passing with 1.576 yards, 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on the season and Marshall has been a huge part of this Auburn offense.

Johnathan Ford has been a wrecking ball on defense, racking up 65 tackles, 1.5 for loss, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble. Cassanova McKinzy is close behind with 64 tackles, 8.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The rest of the defense has been stellar, too. On top of his 27 tackles, Jonathan Jones also has 5 interceptions, 7 pass break-ups and a forced fumble. Krist Frost has 3 forced fumbles and DaVonte Lambert has 3.5 sacks on the season, rounding out the team leaders.

#15 Georgia

While it always hurts to have a star like Todd Gurley on the bench, it’s nice to know you have a capable backup. Freshman backup RB Nick Chubb had 671 yards and 5 touchdowns in the four games that Gurley was absent while Gurley has 773 yards and 8 touchdowns from the first 5 games of the season before his suspension.

For the season, Chubb has a total of 133 carries for 895 yards and 7 touchdowns. The new dual-threat backfield will have teams scrambling to defend the rest of Georgia’s offensive weapons.

Huston Mason has had it a little easier than some with a strong backfield behind him. Despite that, his numbers are still solid for a team that loves to run the ball. On the season, Mason is 140 of 203 for 1,515 yards, 15 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He also has 4 touchdowns on the ground.

Mason’s top targets have been Chris Conley and Michael Bennett this season. Conley has 25 receptions for 443 yards and 5 touchdowns. Bennett has 30 receptions for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns. The only other receiver on the team with over 200 yards receiving is Jeb Blazevich, who has 14 grabs for 230 yards and 2 scores.

Georgia’s defense has been tough this season, especially against opposing QB’s. Amarlo Herrera has 75 tackles this season, 8 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 5 quarterback hits. Four players have 3 or more sacks on the team, with Leonard Floyd leading them all with 5. Seven defenders have registered at least 1 interception this season – Damian Swann and Quincy Mauger each have 3.

Four players have registered forced fumbles with two of them tied at 2 each. Six players have fumble recoveries and the team as a whole has a whopping 98 QB hits this season – enough to make any QB cringe.
