Stanford has gotten the better of USC in recent years, as they’ve gone 4-1 (3-2 ATS) since 2009. The Trojans won last year (20-17) at home thanks in large part to Cody Kessler and Nelson Agholor.

In the game last year against Stanford, Kessler completed 25/37 passes for 288 yards and 1 TD. Agholor led the WR’s with 8 receptions for 104 yards. USC was held to just 23 rush yards in that game though.

Kevin Hogan played poorly against the Trojans last year. Hogan completed 14/25 passes for 127 yards, 0 TD’s and 2 INT’s. Tyler Gaffney was the only player on offense to play well, but he’s in the NFL now.

The action on this game has been split about 60/40 in favor of the Cardinals at home. I’m going the other way and betting on the Trojans +3 points.

Putting a ½ unit on the ML is a good idea as well.

Tre Madden isn’t expected to play again, but the Trojans were unlikely to run the football successfully on the Cardinals. USC had 277 rushing yards (4.3 YPC) last week, but Stanford’s d-line is exceptional.

I like USC because they can beat Stanford through the air. Agholor is back and he had 5 receptions for 57 yards and 2 TD’s last week. JuJu Smith gained 123 receiving yards on just four catches as well.

Kessler looked poised last week. He completed 25/37 for 394 yards and 4 TD’s. Sarkisian had his offense looking sharp and while I like the Cardinals defense, their offense can’t keep up with USC.

When Andrew Luck was around the Cardinals had the offense to win shootouts. Now they have to rely on the defense to keep them within striking distance, which isn’t ideal against a top offense.

USC is loaded at the skill positions on offense and Kessler will have plenty of targets. He made all of the right reads last week.

This will be a tougher test, but he’ll have confidence from last year’s win.

College football betting trends

  • USC are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

  • Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Stanford.
  • Over is 13-5 in the last 18 meetings.

Free NCAAF Pick: USC vs. Stanford

Stanford is 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and the Trojans have struggled on the road recently (2-11 ATS). USC is 0-8 ATS on the road against teams with a winning record, but I still like them.

USC Trojans +3 (-110)

This Cardinals offense isn’t that impressive and the Trojans have enough talent on defense to keep them to under three TD’s.

Kessler has a lot of weapons and I expect another SU win from USC this year.
