Week 4 Odds: Terps vs Orange

The Maryland Terrapins (2-1) travel to the Carrier Dome to take on the Syracuse Orange (2-0) in week 4 college football action. Cappers Picks will provide free NCAA football picks all season long.

The Terrapins lost a heartbreaker at home last week against West Virginia (40-37). Syracuse was in action as well and they beat up on Central Michigan (40-3) on the road in week 3 to remain undefeated.

Nearly 70% of the action this week has been on Maryland to cover the point spread. Maryland is the more battle-tested team at this point in the season, but after losing to WVU it’ll be tough heading on the road.

Last season these two teams played and Syracuse dominated the Terrapins (20-3) on the road. Syracuse was a +6 point underdog in the game and won SU, so I’m surprised that this spread is so low.

Both teams struggled to throw the football last year in the H2H meeting. Terrel Hunt went 15/24 for 140 passing yards and 1 INT while C.J. Brown went 21/40 for 211 passing yards and 2 INT’s.

Neither QB threw a TD pass in the game and I don’t expect either team to have success through the air on Saturday. These two QB’s are dual-threats and have the ability to beat opposing defenses on the ground.

Hunt is third on the team in carries (16), second on the team in rushing yards (117) and first on the team in rushing TD’s (5). Brown leads the Terrapins in carries (35), rushing yards (219) and rushing TD’s (4).

Maryland has allowed 133.0 RYPG (46th) this season while Syracuse has allowed 34.0 RYPG (1st). Syracuse will have their front seven tested much more often this week, but they’ve looked strong thus far.

Syracuse is also better at stopping the pass.

They’ve allowed 183.0 PYPG (23rd) whereas Maryland has been lit up and allowed 342.5 PYPG (119th). Syracuse has played the easier schedule though.

I expect the Orange to be able to establish the run at home and keep the Terrapins offense off the field as much as possible.

I like the Terrapins WR’s, but Brown has trouble finding his targets consistently.

NCAAF Week 4 Betting Trends:

  • Over is 8-2 in MD last 10 vs. ACC.
  • MD are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 vs. ACC.
  • Over is 7-2 in SYR last 9 games in September.
  • SYR are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 home games.
  • Over is 9-4-1 in SYR last 14 non-conference games.

Free NCAAF Pick: Maryland vs. Syracuse

The Orange are typically a strong team, as they’ve gone 8-3-1 ATS in their L12 home games. They’ve also gone 9-2 ATS in their L11 non-conference games and they really should be able to win at home.

Syracuse has to focus on shutting down Brown in this match-up. If they can disrupt Brown it’ll be a long day for the Terrapins. The Orange are much deeper at RB and the run is what’ll win the game.

4* FREE Play on Syracuse Orange –1.5 (-110)

It took a lot out of Maryland at home to comeback against WVU only to lose the game by a late FG. I look for the Orange to run early and often, which will wear down the Terrapins defense by the 2H.
