The series history is Florida State 14-North Carolina 1, and one tie.

Florida State has lost three straight games, coming into Thursday night’s contest falling, 49-44 at Georgia Tech in Week 6. Based on their performance against the Yellow Jackets, the Seminoles have to feel good about their offense production heading into Thursday’s game.

Seminoles QB Christian Ponder threw five touchdown passes to five different receivers in the game, and WR Taiwan Easterling is coming off the first 100-yard receiving game of his career.

The Seminoles defense still needs tweaking, particularly in the area of pass rushing.

The Tar Heels rank third nationally in pass defense and fifth in total defense, and has held four of the six opponents the have faced, to under 100 yards rushing. The problem for North Carolina is on offense. North Carolina’s offense ranks 10th or worse in the Atlantic Coast Conference in all five major statistical categories. The Tar Heels have yet to launch a consistent running attack, especially against quality defenses.

The Heels have only 56 rushing yards in their two conference games. QB T.J. Yates is throwing for just about 161 yards a game, while RB Ryan Houston has just seven touchdowns in six games, only fifth best in the ACC.

Florida State vs. North Carolina Odds

The Tar Heels is currently -2 ½ point favorites in Thursday’s game.

Seminoles vs. Tar Heels Free Pick

North Carolina’s defense will need to force turnovers to bail out the offense, helping to put them in better scoring position. FSU will need another outstanding performance from Christian Ponder, keeping a shaky defense off the field as much as possible.

One reply on “FSU Seminoles vs. UNC Tar Heels Preview | Pick”

Florida State has sunk pretty low after a promising start to this season. Bowdin should do the right thing and step down graciously after this season. He had his run and it is time for someone else to take this program over.
