The battle of FBS unbeatens tonight in the desert certainly has the potential to be an all-timer. Both squads have stupidly effective offensive and defensive units, but something has to give in this match-up between the giant programs of the mid-major conferences.

A mid-major program will often rise to the top and make people question the BCS establishment; Boise in 2004, Utah last season. Either team in this year’s Fiesta Bowl could have a rightful claim to similar accolaides. For the Broncos, the attack is divvyed up fairly between contributors like RBs Jeremy Avery and Doug Martin, WRs Austin Pettis and Titus Young.

Of course, everything is funneled through standout sophomore southpaw Kellen Moore.

Boise’s offense will attempt to gouge a Horned Frogs D that is more watertight than the USS Idaho. Led by head coach Gary Patterson, the Frogs have been kicking ass and taking names for several seasons now; they’re definitely under the radar no longer. Quarterback Andy Dalton will guide the offense and the defense is orchestrated with bit players like Daryl Washington, Wayne Daniels, Tank Carder (put that one in the baby book) and sackmaster Jerry Hughes. The Frogs didn’t have the toughest schedule in 2009, but they looked good in victories against Clemson and BYU.

If Hughes and the rest of the pass rushers can pressure Moore, the Broncos’ attack could be a mistake away from letting the Fiesta Bowl slip through their fingers.

These two programs are very polished and it is interesting that they square off against each other in this BCS bowl. Texas Christian was a single Longhorns point away from having a chance to play for the national title; it would be really intriguing to see how Boise State or TCU would stack up against Texas, Alabama or Florida.

Regardless, we’re getting a chance to see the best of the best non-BCS offerings, and we should be in for a beauty.

Expect TCU’s overwhelming defense to lead the Frogs from Fort Worth to a narrow victory on the national stage.
