Houston Cougars vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane Week 13 Free Pick

CFB Handicapping: Houston Cougars vs Tulsa Golden Hurricane

The dream season keeps on getting better down in Houston. Last week against SMU they looked a little sluggish early but after all was said it was another dominating win and cover. So what if they didn’t crack 40 points.

Houston

They still won by 30 and I think they are earning some more respect nationally with the way their defense is playing right now. And they still possess the top scoring offense in the nation.

That may be primarily because of Case Keenum and a lethal passing attack but for the second week in a row they had a lot of success on the ground. Keenum threw for just 1 TD which might have hurt his Heisman credentials but he doesn’t seem to mind. The Cougars are having a special season and I would like to see the good times continue all the way to the BCS.
A win over Tulsa would take them a step closer to that goal.

Tulsa has played the Cougars about as close as possible for the last two season with just two points separating the teams over the two games. The number on this one is -3 but my gut tells me that this one won’t be close. I think the Cougars will take it rather easily in a game that should fly over the total.

Tulsa

Not that many teams are undefeated in their conferences right now but Tulsa is one of them. Houston may be the media darling coming into this one but the Golden Hurrican will be able to give them a game. This is a pretty good team. Their three losses this season are to none other than Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Boise State. God bless them for scheduling up…few teams do.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Tulsa is a bit more balanced this year than they have been in the past. They may not be quite as prolific but they are among few teams that run and pass for more than 200 yards per game. A lot was expected out of senior QB G.J. Kinne this year and he has performed well managing the team. The Texas transfer is still looking to fulfill the promise when he first arrived and a win against Houston would help build his legacy.

This is a great spoiler spot for Tulsa and they won’t be afraid of Houston at all given their close battles with them over the last couple of years. However, I am not sure their defense can withstand the assault of the Cougars who are showing great balance of late.

Tulsa gave up more than 40 points in all their losses.

Those teams were all highly ranked when they played them…so is Houston right now.

ATS Pick: Houston -3
Over/Under Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Houston 49 – Tulsa 35
