2015-16 Early-Season College Football Matchups – (ACC)

The Virginia Tech Hokies were an unimpressive 7-6 during the 2014-15 NCAA Football season, but they managed one huge victory early in the year: a 35-21 win over then-ranked No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes.

This season, Ohio State has a chance to get its revenge, meaning Virginia Tech better be ready.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

Date: Monday, Sept. 7
Time: 8:00 p.m. ET
Venue: Lane Stadium
Odds: TBD

In last season’s matchup, Virginia Tech had the luxury of going up against J.T. Barrett in just his second game. According to the Associated Press, Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said after the game, “There are some weaknesses right now on our team and it was rather obvious what (they are). We can play better on both sides.”

Meyer was right, as the team went on to fix those issues and win a national championship. That’s the team that the Hokies are up against in Week 2, so they’d better be ready.

Louisville Cardinals vs. Auburn Tigers

Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Georgia Dome

Bobby Petrino has found himself victorious in all 10 of his season-opening contests with the Louisville Cardinals, but this one could be the one to break that trend.

In Week 1 of the 2015-16 NCAA Football season, Louisville travels to a neutral location to take on the what-will-be heavily favored Auburn Tigers. The Cardinals do have a 1-0 record all time against this program, but that hardly matters coming into this contest, as the game was played back in 1974.

Clemson Tigers @ Louisville Cardinals

Time: 7:30 p.m.
Venue: Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium
Odds: TBD

This early-season in-conference showdown will take place on Thursday night on ESPN, and will play a significant role in shaping the ACC title race — more specifically: who will look to challenge Florida State at the end of the year.

The Cardinals were unable to defeat a ranked opponent during their first season in the ACC, but they’re looking to build upon their inaugural year in the.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ South Carolina Gamecocks

Date: Thursday, Sept. 3
Time: 6:00 p.m. ET
Venue: Bank of America Stadium
Odds: TBD

Ah, the Carolina Bowl. A matchup that has happened just twice since 1991. The two matchups took place in 2007 and 2013, respectively, and this year we’ll see what the two programs can do with their defenses — defenses that are in need of vast improvement.
