They will no doubt have their eye on a seventh win, when the travel to South Florida on Saturday to take on the Bulls, who are coming off a disappointing upset loss at home to Central Florida last time out.

The Cardinals have shot out of the starting gate, putting together an extraordinary effort. However, the wheels came off the bus last Friday, when they blew a 28-7 third-quarter lead and lost at home to Central Florida, 38-35, at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium..

Despite winning the time of possession battle, Louisville could not slow down Storm Johnson as the Knights rolled over the Cardinals normally stingy defense.

Meanwhile, Dominique Brown led the offensive charge for the Cardinals, rushing for 88 yards, while Senorise Perry was held to a season-low 18 yards.

Heisman candidate Teddy Bridgewater threw for 341 yards for the Cardinals, while receivers Eli Rogers and DeVante Parker had 95 and 66 yards respectively. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The No. 107 Bulls, in the meantime, after an 0-4 start, have won two in a row,  most recently beating Connecticut 13-10 in a Week 7 victory at Rentschler Field.

They have had two weeks off to prepare for Louisville, and will hope they can sustain their momentum as they try to slow down a versatile Cardinals offense.

South Florida will have its work cut out, as it will pit its No. 119-ranked offense that is averaging 16 PPG, against a Cardinals defense that ranks No. 2 this week at 11 PPG.

The same offense was only able to put up 13 points last week against a pitiful Huskies defense. In fact, the game could have just as easily went the other way, with South Florida being outgained by Connecticut 356-228.

Matt’s Free Prediction

The Bulls aerial game is anemic and the Cardinals No. 16-rated front seven should have little problem stopping a South Florida running attack that is ranked 101st in generating rushing yards at home.

Sure South Florida has fared well against bottom feeder teams, but it has yet to tangle with the likes of the Cardinals potent offense.

I expect this one to be a blowout as the Cardinals continue their quest for a bowl bid.

Louisville 45, South Florida 10
