Cal Golden Bears vs. Stanford Cardinal Week 13 Betting Predictions & Preview

California vs Stanford NCAA Football Odds

The Stanford Cardinal entered last week with their Rose Bowl fate in their own hands. Unfortunately for them, a loss to the USC Trojans means they need another loss from the Oregon Ducks—an unlikely wish considering the team’s remaining schedule.

Cal is just 1-10 on the year, and it has dropped its last nine entering Week 13.

California

California has one win on the season, and it was a grind-it-out game against the Portland State Vikings in Week 2. The team has played a brutal schedule that includes Northwestern, Ohio State, Oregon and UCLA, and things aren’t getting any easier with Stanford to close out the year.

Entering this week’s contest, Cal is still considered a dangerous team through the air. It is 10th in the country in passing yards per game, but the problem is that those yards rarely turn into points. The team is 95th in scoring in the FBS, and it goes without saying (again) that it won’t be easy to improve against a Stout Stanford defense.

Speaking of defense, the Golden Bears have been dreadful on that side of the ball as well. They’re one mark from being dead last in the entire country in points allowed, as their 44.4 points-per-game average is only good enough for 124th in the nation.

If I haven’t made it clear by now, California doesn’t have much of a chance in this one. The question is whether or not they can beat the spread, which is a heavy one to say the least.

Stanford

If the statistics are any indication—and most statistical analysts would like to think they are—the Cardinal won’t struggle in this one. That said, they’ve been given the lofty task of winning by 32 points, which isn’t an easy task regardless of which team you’re facing.

Consider a few recent trends. For starters, Stanford is 6-1-1 ATS in its last eight outings against a team with a losing record. Cal clearly qualifies in that category, giving the Cardinal the advantage.
But it doesn’t stop there.

Stanford is 27-13 ATS in its last 40 home games, while Cal is just 2-11 ATS in its last 13 conference games.

The Golden Bears are also 1-10 in their last 11 games on grass, which gives the home team Cardinal yet another benefit.

All the signs point Stanford’s way, and quite frankly, there’s little reason to assume anything else. This game should be a cake walk for the Cardinal, giving them momentum heading into their Week 14 matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Prediction: Stanford 45 – California 13
