BYU vs. Washington Free Pick

BYU Cougars at Washington Huskies Week 2 Gambling Preview + Free Pick

The Washington Huskies (0-1 SU & ATS) move into what is another step in a back-breaking schedule as they play host to the Cougars of Brigham Young (1-0, 0-0 ATS) is NCAA football action that is set to get underway at 3 PM ET on Saturday at Husky Stadium (artificial turf) in Seattle.

BetUS NCAA Betting Odds: BYU -9.5, Total 54.5

Here are some of the NCAA football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* BYU has won its last 11 games SU
* BUY has covered 11 of its last 16 road games
* BYU has won nine of its last 11 road games SU
* WASH has covered three of its last nine games
* WASH has lost 10 of its last 12 games SU
* WASH has played six of its last nine games OVER the total
* WASH has covered seven of its last 25 home games
* WASH has lost five of its last six home games
* WASH has played five of its last six home games SU

Even though BYU has won nine of its last 11 road games, not one of them has been against a non-conference opponent. In fact, it has been five years since the Cougars have gone on the road and out of the Mountain West to beat anyone. That encompasses a total of nine failures. And it is something the players and staff are well aware of. “I try not to think about it,” says Max Hall, the team’s quarterback.

If there is one thing Hall had better think about, it’s the mild concussion he may have suffered last week against Northern Iowa. After throwing for 486 yards in the 41-17 exhibition victory, Hall, who got hit in the head a couple of times very severely, had nausea during the post-game press conference.

Washington”s play against Oregon in the opener was enough to make U-Dub fans pretty nauseous. The Huskies were held to 242 total yards in dropping a 44-10 decision to Oregon, which looked more like a TKO. And it did nothing to build confidence in coach Ty Willingham, who is getting into deeper and deeper water.

Wilingham’s big concern is with his defense. Oregon scored 30 unanswered second-half points playing with two quarterbacks who were taking their first collegiate snaps, and it is not a good sign for the team’s new 3-3-5 alignment when youngsters with no experience can solve it that easily. And the UW offense is not that complex either, not when defenses can concentrate on the one potentially effective weapon – Locker – and come away with success. Locker, a dual threat at quarterback who had been bothered by a hamstring in fall practice, ran for just 57 yards (3.6 per carry) and needs to do much better than that, because his passing still needs work; he completed just 12 for 28 against Oregon.

We understand BYU’s road drought in these situations, but the important fundamental advantages have to go to the Cougars. Let’s not ignore, either, that Washington is 7-18 ATS in its last 25 home games. We’ll lay it with more explosive BYU, the 9.5-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
