CFB Football Previews – Ohio State Buckeyes vs Miami Hurricanes

So far, a zillion suspensions, the departure of starting quarterback Terrelle Pryor and coach Jim Tressel’s resignation haven’t been enough to stop the No. 17 Ohio State Buckeyes. Can they improve to 3-0 at Miami this week?

Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0)

In reality, while the 2-0 record looks nice on paper, life hasn’t been all that easy for Ohio State. Under interim head coach Luke Fickell, the Buckeyes cruised past Akron in Week 1. But Week 2 was a different story. At home to Toledo, they were favored by 12.5 points at most books, but they barely escaped with a victory.

The Buckeyes trailed by a point late in the fourth quarter before Carlos Hyde sealed a 27-22 win by running for a score with 3:17 left on the clock.

Is this team ready to face Miami on the road? The Buckeyes have been solid on “D” but it’s tough to gauge their offense. Quarterback Joe Bauserman has four touchdown passes in two games but hasn’t hit the 200-yard mark in either victory. The ’Canes will test him.

Miami Hurricanes (0-1)

Miami can certainly relate to Ohio’s plight, as it, too is a high-profile program tainted by scandal and suspensions to start the 2011 season. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Miami played without suspended starting quarterback Jacory Harris in Week 1 and his absence showed. Backup quarterback Stephen Morris couldn’t recapture the form he flashed last season, throwing for just 190 yards, no touchdowns and two picks. Danny O’Brien also torched the Hurricanes for 348 passing yards.

CFB Wagering Trends:

Under is 8-1-2 in OHIST last 11 road games.
OHIST are 22-4 ATS in their last 26 games on grass.
OHIST are 22-7-1 ATS in their last 30 road games.
Under is 6-1-1 in MIAMI last 8 games on grass.
Under is 6-2-1 in MIAMI last 9 games overall.
Under is 36-16-1 in MIAMI last 53 home games.

The pick:

All hope is not lost, as most of Miami’s Week-1 troubles are already remedied on paper entering their home game this week. Harris has been reinstated and instantly upgrades the ’Canes’ passing game. Also, O’Brien looks like a pretty special passer. Miami’s athletic defense should have a much easier time against the unproven Bauserman. Their rushing attack looked good in the loss to Maryland; Lamar Miller ripped off 119 yards and a score on 18 carries.

The Hurricanes are at home, they’re the more talented team and they’re facing an Ohio State team that narrowly got by Toledo at home. All signs point to a Miami win if you ask me.
