Purdue is by far the worst Big Ten team this season, with their only win of the 2013 campaign coming by way of a weaker Indiana State team way back in Week 2.

Since then, it’s been a downhill slide as they dropped yet another in a 44-7 blowout in their most recent outing at home against Nebraska.

The Boilermakers simply could not move the ball, mustering just 216 yards on the day against the Huskers, with their only score coming on a hail Mary passing play less than a minute remaining.

Meanwhile, defensively, Purdue gave up 435 yards to Nebraska, who hammered them with its ground attack — something they can expect a lot of from the Spartans, as they throw every bit of running back Jeremy Langford at the Boilermakers front seven. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Langford tore up the turf for 109 rushing yards on Saturday to lead the Spartans to a 42-28 win over the Hoosiers at Spartan Stadium.

Michigan State’s ground attack could have a record-setting day against the Boilermakers, who are currently ranked 101st in the nation in yards per attempt, allowing five yards per carry.

If Purdue want to have any shot in this one, they will  have to force some key turnovers against young MSU quarterback Connor Cook, who  completed 22-of-31 pass attempts for 235 yards for the Spartans in the win over Indiana.

Defensively, the Spartans are solid, holding the Hoosiers high-octane offense in check.

On the season, the unit is holding opponents to just 15 points per game on average, ranking the Spartans fifth in the nation in scoring defense.

Matt’s Free Prediction

The only question here is whether or not the Spartans will come up with enough offense to cover a three score spread.

With that my play is the total, which has dropped a lot since the opening.

Still, I don’t think the MSU will have any problem, nearly hitting this  total on their own.

Michigan State 37, Purdue 14
