What is in their future is a matchup this week against a struggling Boston College Eagles team that should help the Seminoles regain their confidence heading into the second half of the season.

Boston College Eagles

The Boston College Eagles have had a rough year up to this point, and facing Florida State on the road isn’t likely to help their outlook on the season.

Behind quarterback Chase Rettig, the passing game has actually been quite good. The junior has thrown for 1,526 yards, 10 touchdowns and just three interceptions on the season. The team is averaging 310.8 passing yards per game, which is good enough for 16th in the nation.

The problem is, those yards aren’t always equating to points. Averaging 29 points per game is fine, but if they had any running game whatsoever, they just might be able to outscore their opponents on a more regular basis. Averaging just 104.8 yards per game on the ground, BC is extremely one-dimensional.

Against Florida State, Boston College is going to need points. Challenging the Seminoles’ defense is going to be tough, but the way to do it might be by balancing out the attack with another big performance from running back Andre Williams. Williams tied an NCAA record against Army with a 99-yard touchdown run en route to 191 yards in the contest.

Florida State Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles suffered arguably the most surprising loss in all of college football last week, and they should come out fuming against Boston College this weekend.

The defense of FSU has been good all year, but they should prove to have a field day against the one-way attack of the Eagles. The Seminoles allow the fifth fewest passing yards in the nation, and without much of a threat on the ground, BC should struggle to move the ball on the road.

Quarterback E.J. Manuel has been great all year, and he should have himself another great performance against BC’s defense that allows more than 210 yards passing each week. The senior has completed 70.5 percent of his passes on the year for 10 touchdowns and 1,365 yards (two interceptions). [soliloquy id=”82219″]

If the Seminoles come out flat following their loss last week, they could be in for a hangover against BC this weekend. However, the more likely scenario is that they come out angry and dominate from start to finish.

Florida State owns virtually every aspect of this game, and with the ACC title still within their grasps, they should be motivated to get back on track against the Eagles this weekend.
