The Tigers come into this game with an overall record of 13-0 straight-up and 9-4 against the spread. They are currently a three-point favorite over the Ducks, who are also undefeated at 12-0 SU and are 7-4-1 ATS. The ‘over/under’ for this game has been set at 74.

This will be the fifth Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship Game, but some form of the BCS has been in place since 1998. Prior to establishing a stand-alone championship game, the BCS rotated the championship among the four major bowls that make up the BCS bowl series; the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, and Rose.

Under the current system, the top two teams in the country as determined by the final BCS rankings earn a spot in the championship game while the rest of the top 10 earn a spot in one of the other four BCS bowls. As part of the agreement with American Football Coaches Association, the winner of the BCS Championship Game will be named the BCS National Champion and thus guaranteed at the very least a share of the national championship. The first BCS Championship Game was played on January 8, 2007 between the No. 2 Florida Gators and the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes. This initial championship game ended up as a one-side affair with the 12-1 Gators trouncing the 12-0 Buckeyes 41-14 as a seven-point underdog. Ohio State struck first when Ted Ginn Jr. returned the opening kick-off 93 yards for a score, but that was as close as it got as Florida opened a 34-14 lead at the half and coasted to the win.

The 2008 BCS Championship Game pitted the No. 2 LSU Tigers against the No. 1 Ohio State. The 11-2 Tigers handed the 11-1 Buckeyes their second straight BCS championship defeat in a 38-24 romp as a 5 ½-point favorite. Once again, Ohio State fell behind early, trailing by 14 points at the half, and failed to rally in yet another crushing defeat to a team from the SEC.

Florida returned to the championship game in 2009 as the No. 2 team in the country to take on the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners. This time the 12-1 Gators found themselves in a much closer battle, but a pair of Tim Tebow touchdown passes to Percy Harvin proved to be the difference in a 24-14 victory. Florida came into this game as 5 ½-point favorite over the 12-1 Sooners.

Last year’s championship game featured the No. 2 Texas Longhorns against the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide. An early injury to Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy set the tone for this game as the 13-0 Crimson Tide opened up a 24-6 lead in the first half and never looked back in a 37-21 victory as a 3 ½-point favorite. Alabama RB Mark Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, was named offensive MVP after carrying the ball 22 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

I think the Ducks are going to shock everyone and beat the Tigers. I have been watching the Ducks all year since I am a PAC-10 guy (ASU yeah wasn’t to fun to watch this year).
