2014 NFL Draft Props & Gambling Predictions

NFL Draft Day

The NFL Draft begins on Thursday with the first round, and that’s when all the fun stuff happens. We learn who the top overall pick will be, the top players in the country are assigned a new team, and someone who had been projected as a high pick will fall and be forced to sit uncomfortably with cameras pointed at him while hoping and praying to be scooped up.

More importantly for our purposes, the majority of draft props will be graded on Thursday, allowing the savvy bettor an opportunity to pad their bankroll.

Here are five NFL Draft props worthy of a closer look.

Where will Johnny Manziel be drafted?

He was fun to watch in college, and he did have plenty of success in College Station, but his reckless style simply won’t translate well to the NFL game. It’s one thing to make a 19-year-old from Duke miss a tackle, but it’s a whole different ball game when trying to dodge an NFLer. Some teams have expressed interest near the top, but pulling the trigger is a different story all together.

Teams in the teens have been saying they expect him to be around, but wouldn’t draft him if he were there. Johnny Football is a fun story, but to tie the fate of a franchise to him is a major gamble.

The play: Over 4.5 (+150)

Who will be drafted first: Derek Carr or Teddy Bridgewater?

It wasn’t that long ago that Teddy Bridgewater was a sure fire top pick. Admittedly, that was probably overreaching from the get go, but could he really have fallen that far, that quickly, after lighting it up at Louisville this season? As for Derek Carr, the last time we saw him in game action, and the only time many saw him, was in his bowl game against USC, in which he looked terrible.

Also, after his brother was a major bust who sunk the Texans franchise for years, his stock can’t be all that high.

The play: Teddy Bridgewater (+100)

Where will Sammy Watkins be drafted?

Sammy Watkins probably shouldn’t be the first wide receiver off the board, but he has a pair of suitors who are both inside the top four. The Rams and Browns both love the Clemson product, and it’s unlikely both will pass up on him. The odds are long, but it’s easy money.

The play: Under (-300)

Where will AJ McCarron be drafted?

McCarron’s draft stock has hovered comfortably around the second round for much of the last few months, and his hype only seems to go up in the days leading up to the draft. He was a winner in college, and led an ultra-efficient Alabama offense in the toughest conference to play football.

The play: Under 78.5 (-110)

How many offensive players will be drafted in the first round?

In a draft deep in top-flight offensive linemen and wide receivers, not to mention all the quarterbacks that could be picked in the first round, this number definitely feels low. It would also be hard to believe if no one went with a running back after the years Eddie Lacy and Gio Bernard had last season.

The play: Over 15.5 (-130)
