It’s gut-check time for Kansas State, the upstart fifth-ranked team that’s arguably playing the biggest game in its history tonight. Does it have a chance to dethrone the powerhouse Jayhawks, who are nine-point favorites tonight?
It certainly won’t be easy considering that the Wildcats couldn’t handle the Jayhawks at home on January 30, losing an 81-79 overtime squeaker. It especially won’t be easy considering Kansas has the country’s longest home winning streak, currently at 58 games and counting.
Kansas State has at least regained momentum since losing to the Wildcats, winning seven straight games. But will it have an answer for Sherron Collins and the nation’s No. 4 offense? Straight up, I don’t think so. Kansas is virtually unstoppable at home. Against the spread, however, Kansas State has a real chance. The Wildcats are an outstanding 16-6-1 ATS this season. On the flipside, sportsbooks have overestimated Kansas; the Jayhawks keep winning but they’ve lost eight of their last nine against the spread.
I see this game going Kansas’ way, but staying closer than nine points.
