There is no recent history between these two opponents.
Marquette has survived another rough and tumble Big East season.
They lost their entire backcourt from last year but led by Lazar Hayward they won the majority of the games they were supposed to and stayed close in losses against highly ranked opponents hence the quality ATS record. They ran out of steam against Georgetown in the Big East tournament and got thumped which makes it hard to see them turning on a dime and beating up a Washington team that is finally figuring out.
Marquette will battle and this game should be close for most of the contest as the Huskies do not have any big men that can dominate against the big hearted yet small in stature Golden Eagles.
Washington has finally gotten hot, winning their last seven games including the PAC 10 conference tournament.
Quincy Pondexter has been leading the way but he can expect help from Isaiah Thomas who was right at his season average of 17ppg in the tournament and will be less of a liability defensively matched up against Marquette’s Maurice Acker, another pint sized point guard.
The Huskies only need to find an answer for Lazar Hayward to keep Marquette in check. His game continues to expand and the responsibility might fall to Pondexter as they are about the same size.
I think it comes down to whoever wins the matchup will send his team into the second round.
