ATS Matchup Insight | CP Insider Gambling Preview
In their last games New Mexico beat San Diego State 64-58 in the final of the MWC tournament and Stanford lost to UCLA 84-59 in the Pac 12 conference tournament.
In the 2nd round of the South Region the 10th seed Stanford Cardinal face the 7th ranked New Mexico Lobos. Many are picking the Lobos to be a dark horse in the Big Dance and while they have ended the season well they not only have to beat Stanford, but, likely, Kansas in the next round just to get to the Sweet 16.

The Lobos upset SDSU to win the conference tournament and they have won 9 of their last 10 games. Stanford had won 3 straight games before falling to UCLA in the Pac 12 tourney.
New Mexico is a solid team on offense with 2 big scorers in Cameron Bairstow (20.3 ppg) and Kendall Williams (16.4 ppg). This FW/G duo can light it up and the Cardinal have to play good defense on this duo.

Another player that Stanford has to key on is 7’ C Alex Kirk, who leads the Lobos in rebounds and 3 of his last 4 games he has pulled down 11 boards.
Chasson Randle (18.7 ppg) leads the Cardinal in scoring, but only went for 11 points in the UCLA loss. He and Dwight Powell are also a good G/FW duo and with Powell being at 6’10 he will be the guy that has to body up on Kirk.
Stanford has to forget about the UCLA game where they failed to shoot 40% from the floor and they played terrible defense allowing the Bruins to shoot a scorching FG% of 65.2%.
Betting Trends
Stanford is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall, 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.
New Mexico is 14-3 ATS in their last 17 games overall, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games, and they have an Under record of 8-1 in their last 9 games.
Jason’s Pick:
New Mexico has covered the spread only 1 time in their last 6 NCAA tournament games, but that trend will not continue. The Lobos are en fuego and they will beat the Cardinal in this 2nd round match up and cover the 3-point spread.
