The No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers will prepare to do battle with the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in the Sweet 16 round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament on Friday at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri.

Evan Turner has been carrying what might be the thinnest team in a field of 16. The Buckeyes lack of depth has Turner, Jon Diebler, and David Lighty seeing over 30 minutes of playing time each and every game.

It may be starting to show, as Turner turned in an awful performance in round one against UCSB. He did seem to bounce back in the second round win over Georgia Tech, but did commit nine turnovers, something he will need to clean up if the Buckeyes are going to beat Tennessee in the Sweet 16 on Friday.

The big question is, will Ohio State’s lack of depth catch up with them the deeper into the tournament they go? The Bucks have been far from dominating in either game in the NCAA tournament thus far. In their 9-point win over Georgia Tech, Diebler and Lighty scored double digits as the Buckeyes shot 49 percent from the field and went just 8-for-21 on 3-pointers.

They were outrebounded by three and committed 18 turnovers, while forcing 21. However, the Bucks suffocating zone defense held the Yellow Jackets to just 41 percent from the field and 4-for-20 on 3-pointers, something that will need to remain a constant against Tennessee.

Meanwhile, the Bucks might be in luck as they now face a Tennessee team that may lack the same amount of depth on the bench. The Vols barley got past the first round with a 62-59 victory over No. 11 seed San Diego State, and in the second round, they got lucky by facing No. 14 seed Ohio, which upset No. 3 Georgetown in the first round.

In their victory over Ohio, the Vols shot 57 percent from the field and outrebounded the Bobcats by 11 while holding them to a mere 38 percent shooting. J.P. Prince led the Vols along with Scotty Hopson in points, while tourney veteran Wayne Chism and Brian Williams each grabbed 12 rebounds apiece.

While neither team creates any real inside threat, both squads have the ability to scorch foes from 3-point range. For Ohio State, Buford, Diebler and Turner can all knock down some outside shots, while Hopson, Maze, Tatum and Chism can all shoot the ball well from beyond the arc for Tennessee.
