The Sweet 16 round of this year’s NCAA Men’s Tournament kicks off with the San Diego State Aztecs taking on the Connecticut Huskies in the West Region semifinal this upcoming Thursday night. Game time from the Honda Center is set for 7:15 p.m. and it will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

San Diego State came into this tournament with one of the best records in the nation at 32-2 straight-up. It opened things up with a 68-50 win over No.15 seed Northern Colorado as a 14 ½-point favorite. The Aztecs had their hands full against No.7 seed Temple in the third round, needing two overtimes to finally get past the Owls with a 71-64 victory as a 5 ½-point favorite.

Billy White led the way against Temple with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while Kawhi Leonard added 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the win. Leonard leads San Diego State in points with 15.6 and rebounds with 10.6 a game. The Aztecs are shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc, but hit an amazing 54.5 percent of their three-point attempts against the Owls.

Connecticut has been on a major roll since the start of the Big East Tournament with seven straight wins coming into this game. The Huskies crushed No.14 seed Bucknell 81-52 in their first game of this tournament as a 10-point favorite and then knocked-out Big East foe No.7 seed Cincinnati with a 69-58 victory as a 3 ½-point favorite.

Two words define the Huskies chances in this game; Kemba Walker. He has averaged 25.5 points in the first two games including a 33-point effort against the Bearcats. Jeremy Lamb added 14 points and Alex Oriakhi pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in the 11-point win. Connecticut is averaging 73 points a game and is ranked 11th in the nation in rebounds with an average of 40 a game.

The Aztecs defense is the strength of this team, but it is doubtful they will have an answer for Walker in this one. Stick with Connecticut to win and advance onto the Elite Eight.
