Matchup Stats | ATS Insider Preview

Louisville has wins in 14 of its last 17 games, while Kentucky is flying high coming off a win over top-seeded Wichita State.

These teams already have a meeting against one another under their belts this season, a game which Kentucky claimed on its home floor by a score of 73-66.

Louisville guard Russ Smith had 19 points in that one, leading all scorers, though he needed 20 shots to get there. Kentucky, meanwhile, got a combined 28 points from the Harrison twins, and while star forward Julius Randle was held to just three rebounds, Willie Cauley-Stein and James Young combined for 20 boards.

The Cardinals will be hoping for a different result this time around. Smith had another rough outing in the team’s last game, though some others were able to step up in a 66-51 win over Saint Louis.

Smith finished the game just 3-of-10 from the field for 11 points, though he did chip in seven assists. Forward Luke Hancock stepped up in a big way, scoring a game-high 21 points, and filling out his stat sheet with three rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block.

Kentucky’s last game went right down to the wire, with the Wildcats prevailing over Wichita State by a score of 78-76. The team’s backcourt duo starred again, as the Harrison twins combined for 39 points, helping the team to overcome a 31-point performance by Wichita State’s Cleanthony Early.

Star forward Julius Randle was still the focal point of the team’s offense. Wichita State was quick to double him, but the freshman showed an ability to distribute the ball from the post, handing out six assists to go along with his 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Louisville is on a mission right now, and as impressive as it is that Kentucky is coming off a victory over a No. 1 seed, the reality is that Wichita State never really deserved that ranking. The Cardinals are playing at a higher level than the Wildcats are right now, and this one could wind up getting ugly.

Additionally, the total is set right at the number these teams played to in their last meeting, but these tournament games have a way of tightening up defenses, and that alone should be enough to help this game stay under the total.

The Cardinals are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall, and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 NCAA Tournament games.

The under is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings between these teams, and it is 18-8 in the Cardinals’ last 26 games against SEC opponents.

The play: Louisville -4, Under 138.5
