Thursday Action Brings West Coast Closure In The Western Athletic Conference

At the end of a long and grueling season in the Western Athletic Conference, the Hawaii Warriors – just like so many Hawaii basketball teams in the past – must feel a little weary as they make yet another plane flight to the mainland to play a familiar foe.  Both teams have won four straight.

Hawaii is always at a disadvantage because its travel burden is simply bigger than any other program in the country.

The Warriors won the WAC a few times under former coach Riley Wallace, but their level of staying power simply hasn’t been substantial because the yearly grind of trans-oceanic travel is so pronounced. This late in the season, one can’t expect Hawaii to be particularly fresh and feisty as it goes to Silicon Valley to take on San Jose State. The NEW BetOnline

The big question in this game is as follows: “Is San Jose State good enough and resilient enough to make Hawaii play 40 minutes of defense?”

Given that San Jose State has won four games in a row during an extended late-season homestand, it’s fair to say that, yes, the Spartans have the chops to take down Hawaii.

In the previous meeting, San Jose State’s Adrian Oliver only put up 10 points in the loss to the Warriors but he’ll be fired up to put forth a much better effort in front of the home crowd. Hawaii could really use the road win but they are going to have to come up with one of their best efforts of the season to do so.

SJSU’s home cooking has given coach George Nussman’s team a clear boost near the end of the WAC season. The location of this game has everything to do with the outcome. Pick San Jose State because of the Spartans’ comfort zone at home… and Hawaii’s travel-induced fatigue.
