The Michigan Wolverines likely punched their ticket into the NCAA Tournament with an impressive come from behind victory over Illinois on Friday afternoon. Ohio State squeaked past Northwestern in overtime early Friday afternoon. Now the rivals will square off in the semifinals of the Big Ten Conference Tournament.

Both teams should come in with plenty of confidence and a lot of motivation.

The Michigan Wolverines are a young basketball team, but they have definitely matured over the course of the year. Coach Beilein has done a great job with this team, and the talented youngsters are really making a mark on the Big Ten. Darius Morris has become one of the most underrated point guards in the nation.

Morris distributes the ball well and he can score when he is called upon. Tim Hardaway Jr. had a bit of a slow start to his freshman year, but he is absolutely on fire of late. He has scored at least 16 points in seven of their last eight games, and his shot selection has improved a great deal.

Jordan Morgan is a solid post player, but the Wolverines will need him to stay out of foul trouble in this one so he can guard Jared Sullinger.

Ohio State clearly didn’t bring their best effort on Friday afternoon, but they did find a way to survive and advance. The Buckeyes were successful in overtime by constantly feeding the ball to Jared Sullinger, who was simply too strong for the Wildcat defenders. I expect Ohio State to get the ball to Sullinger early and often in this one.

The Buckeyes are a great shooting team, but their shots weren’t falling on Friday. Ohio State will need to adjust and be able to beat tough teams even when those three-point shots aren’t dropping. Jon Diebler is probably the best shooter in the country. Buford and Lighty give the Buckeyes two players capable of creating their own shot.

Aaron Craft does a great job in the point guard role, and he brings a lot of energy to the team.

Trends:

MICH are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 vs. Big Ten.
MICH are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
Over is 14-6 in MICH last 20 vs. Big Ten.
OHIOS are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Sat. games.
Under is 35-17-1 in OHIOS last 53 Sat. games.

The Pick:

I fully expect Michigan to use the same type of game plan Northwestern used against the Buckeyes. The Wolverines will run the shot clock down on every possession and try to shorten the game. I think this game stays close, and it will stay very low scoring.

Prediction: Ohio State 61 Michigan 55
