The Virginia Tech Hokies will try and extend their  current winning streak to seven games with a victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels this Thursday night in an ACC matchup from the Dean E, Smith Center in Chapel Hill, NC. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.

Virginia Tech ran its current winning streak to six games with a 71-59 win over Florida State as a 3 ½-point home favorite last Saturday. The Hokies are now 10-4 straight-up on the season but just 4-6-1 against the spread.

Senior guard Malcolm Delaney is averaging 18.6 points and four assists and senior forward Jeff Allen is averaging 13.4 points and 9.8 rebounds to provide the veteran leadership for Virginia Tech. This team was dealt a blow when its other senior guard Dorenzo Hudson was lost for the season with a foot injury.

The Hokies are shooting 46.7 percent from the field and averaging 71 points per game. They have struggled a bit from three-point range, hitting just 31.5 percent of their shots, but are shooting a respectable 70.4 percent from the free-throw line.

North Carolina comes into this game with an overall record of 11-4 SU (5-7 ATS). The Tar Heels knocked-off Virginia 62-56 as a 6 ½-point road favorite last Saturday in their ACC opener. It was also their seventh win in their last eight games.

Junior forward Tyler Zeller is the team’s leading scorer with 14.5 points per game, while sophomore forward John Henson leads the team in rebounds with 8.4 per game. North Carolina is averaging 79 points per game and is ranked fifth in the nation in rebounds with an average of 42.3 per game.

The Hokies have lost their last four games in Chapel Hill will be hard-pressed to come away with a win in this one, as the Tar Heels have a distinct advantage in both scoring and rebounds.

 The Pick: North Carolina -7
