The Louisville Cardinals will try to pick-up their 10th victory in the Big East this season when they travel to Piscataway, NJ. to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

The past few weeks have been a roller coaster ride for Louisville with alternating wins and losses in its last six games. The Cardinals lost to Cincinnati 63-54 this past Wednesday as a 1 ½-point road underdog, but rolled over No.12 Connecticut 71-58 as a 3 ½-point home favorite on Friday night. They are currently 20-7 straight-up overall (13-10-1 against the spread) and tied for fourth-place in the Big East standings at 9-5 SU.

Guards Preston Knowles, who is averaging 14.5 points a game and Peyton Siva, who is averaging 10.6 are the only two players scoring in double-figures, but the Cardinals remain extremely well balanced on offense with a trio of players averaging just under 10 points a game. Siva leads the team in assists with 5.1 while sophomore forward Rakeem Buckles leads the team in rebounds with 6.6 a game.

Louisville is shooting a respectable 46.3 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from three-point range, but has struggled from the foul-line; converting on just 66.1 percent of its attempts. The Cardinals are averaging 76 points and 36 rebounds a game.

Rutgers has lost six of its last seven games including a dramatic 84-80 OT loss to No.20 Syracuse this past Saturday as a 12-point road underdog. The Scarlet Knights continue to keep game close by covering in six of their last seven games as an underdog. They are currently 13-13 SU and 11-10-1 ATS. Unfortunately Rutgers finds itself near the bottom of the conference standings with a record of 4-10 SU despite its valiant efforts.

Senior forward Jonathan Mitchell is the only player scoring in double-figures for the Knights with an average of 14.8 points and he also leads the team with six rebounds a game. Sophomore guard-forward Dane Miller and freshman forward Gilvdas Biruta are both averaging over nine points and five rebounds a game to help round out the starting lineup.

Rutgers is almost a carbon-copy of the Cardinals with a field-goal percentage of 44.6, a three-point percentage of 35.1, and a 66.7 percentage from the foul-line. The Knights fall off the pace from there with just 66 points and 33 rebounds a game.

Trends

Louisville is 2-3 ATS in its last five road games and 4-3 ATS in its last seven games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of its last six games.
Rutgers is 3-2 in its last five games at home and 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its last four games.
Head-to-head, the Cardinals have won the last four games SU and is 3-1 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in two of the last three meetings.

Rutgers has played the better teams in the conference extremely tough this season and that should not change in this game. The Scarlet Knights may not get the win, but remain a solid pick getting points at home.

The Pick: Rutgers +3 ½
