The Alcorn State Braves out of the Southwest Conference will be looking to pull off an improbable upset over the Big 12 power Kansas State Wildcats to notch their first win of the year. Tonight’s game from Fred Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, KS. is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com and on ESPN Full Court pay per view.

Alcorn State has had a rough go of it so far with double-digit losses in its first six games. The closest margin of defeat was an 18 point 69-51 loss to Denver in a game that had no posted line. This was also the least amount of points it had given up so far as the average number of points allowed in the other five games was 94.

The Braves opened the season with an 88-56 loss to Texas A&M and were destroyed by No.9 Purdue 103-48 a couple of weeks ago. Last time out, they put up 71 points against Southern Miss, but allowed 100 in the 29 point loss. Junior guard Marquis leads the team with 15.3 points per game and sophomore forward Michael Starks leads in rebounds with an average of four per game. As a team, Alcorn State is shooting just 32.3 percent from the field and less that 60 percent from the free-throw line.

Kansas State is off to a solid start with the only blemish on their record being a 82-68 loss to No. 1 Duke in the finals of the CBE Classic as a 5 ½ point underdog. The game remained competitive into the second half with the Wildcats cutting the lead to six with 17 minutes to play, but a 12-2 Blue Devil run put the game away for good.

Kansas Sate came away with a 63-58 win over Washington State as a 3 ½ point road favorite its last time out with senior forward Curtis Kelly and sophomore guard Rodney McGruder each scoring 15 points to lead the way. Overall, the Wildcats are now 7-1 straight-up and 3-2 against the spread on the year. They are 5-0 SU at home and 1-1 ATS in games that had a posted line.

Senior guard Jacob Pullen leads the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 15 points per game while McGruder is the team’s leading rebounder with 6.8 per game. Kansas State is averaging 76 points per game and shooting 46 percent from the floor. The only weakness so far has been from the free-throw line, where it is averaging just 52.5 percent.

There is no posted line for this game and for good reason as the Wildcats will most likely use this outing as a brisk practice in preparation for games against No. 16 Florida and No. 23 UNLV later this month.
