Team records:
UCLA – 13-17 SU, 12-15 ATS
Arizona – 16-14 SU, 15-13-1 ATS

This game starts a day full of PAC 10 tournament action at the Staples Center.

Arizona won both games in the regular season covering the spread both time. Average margin of victory was 9.5 points.

The Bruins had almost as dramatic a fall this year as UNC.  They finished under .500 for the first time in a long time and that included losses to Portland and Fullerton.  After some great seasons the early exodus of players seems to have left the cupboard bare.  Leading scorer Michael Roll is a nice player but not of the same calibre as recent stars like Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook or Darren Collison.  The PAC 10 was down this year in part due to UCLA’s poor performance.  They lost to USC twice and the only teams they swept were Washington State and Oregon State.

This team just seems to have no identity…or maybe worse its identity is that of a mediocre team.  Arizona is going to try and scratch their way into the NCAA and UCLA might not even put up a fight.

Arizona has made the big dance for 25 years in a row but it looks like that is coming to an end this year.  The talent base was a little thinner than normal and they are breaking in a new coach so expectations were muted but this team should have performed better.  PG and leader Nic Wise was down this year while freshman Derrick Williams is making a variety of postseason teams with a very solid season as the ‘Cats leading scorer and rebounder.  This combo can easily lead the Wildcats to a win in their opening tournament game. The Wildcats have the goods to keep their tourney streak alive but they are going to need one hell of a weekend.

It could be very fun to watch.

UCLA vs. Arizona Odds

On the eve of the game UCLA is shockingly installed as a -1 favourite.

Betting Trends:

Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
Bruins are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
Wildcats are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record.
Wildcats are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games following a ATS loss.
Bruins are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games after scoring less than 50 points in their previous game.

Free Bruins vs. Wildcats CBB Pick

I find it hard to like UCLA in this one unless you think the Staples crowd will give them a boost.  I like Nic Wise, the senior PG, to will another game out of the ‘Cats so people can talk about them extending their streak.  Derrick Williams is better than anyone on UCLA and will turn a few heads as well.

Score Prediction:  Arizona 70 – UCLA 63.
