The No. 10 North Carolina Tar Heels will host the Marshall Thundering Herd on Tuesday at the friendly confines of Dean E Smith Center in Chapel Hill, NC.

North Carolina is 2-0 against Marshall, including a 116-62 victory at Chapel Hill in the most recent meeting Jan. 2, 1994.

The Tar Heels are the highest ranked team in the country with three or more losses and are fresh off a bitter 103-90 defeat to No. 2 Texas on Saturday. The loss moves North Carolina to 2-3 against teams currently ranked among the top 17 in the nation. Marcus Ginyard had 13 points and scored 12 in the loss. No other UNC players hit double figures. Texas pretty much manhandled the Heels and dominated them physically just about everywhere on the hardwood. But UNC gets this contest at home, where the team is a flawless 7-0 on the year, while Marshalls’ lone loss was a road setback at Old Dominion.

Marshall has won seven straight and are coming off a 109-76 rout of High Point on Sunday. Tyler Wilkerson had 18 points and 10 rebounds and the Thundering Herd shot 56.5 percent. Wilkerson is averaging a team-leading 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while the Thundering Herd as a team are averaging 85.2 points on the season and has scored 99 or more in four of its last five games The team has shot the ball well from the floor overall, at a .502 clip.

Marshall will be facing its first ranked opponent of the season, and its first opponent from a major conference. The Herd has lost their last four games versus top 25 teams.

Odds makers have UNC as –14-point favorites with a game total of 158.

UNC has had to endure a great deal of turnaround in terms of talent, but the offensive production is still apparent, with the team netting 85 point per contest.

Spartans vs. Longhorns Odds

The odds makers have Texas at –8½-point favorites with a game total of 152.

A Few Trends:

Marshall is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
Marshall is 2-10 SU in its last 12 games on the road
North Carolina is 13-1 SU in its last 14 games at home
North Carolina is 14-3 SU in its last 17 games

Free Marshall vs. UNC CBB Pick

I like the Tar Heels in this one behind the home court advantage.

One reply on “Marshall Thundering Herd vs. North Carolina Tar Heels Preview | Pick”

North Carolina has already lost three games to higher ranked opponents this season and cannot afford a letdown against a non-ranked team. They will not disappoint the home town crowd, the Tar Heels in a romp.
