ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Both these teams have a lot of similarities. As mentioned above, both teams are ranked in the top 25. Kentucky is number 3 and Baylor is number 20. But, both teams are talented. Kentucky is more talented, but Baylor have some players that can ball as well. Not only that, but both teams have a lot of size and they can shoot really well.

Down low, Kentucky has the 6-foot-9 Julius Randle and the 7-foot Willie Cauley-Stein dominating the glass. Kentucky is number one in the country with 46.8 rebounds a game. For the season individually, Randle is averaging a double double. Randle is averaging 18.1 points per game, and 12.5 rebounds per game. The sophomore Cauley-Stein is averaging 9.6 points per game, and 8.4 rebounds a game.

At guard, the tall, athletic freshman James Young can ball out as well. He’s averaging 13.0 points per game and in Kentucky’s last game versus Providence he scored a team-high 18 points.

Moving on over to Baylor, again, talking about their similarities, Baylor has a lot of size too. Senior forward Cory Jefferson is 6-foot-9 who is averaging 13.5 points per game, and 8.8 rebounds a game. In Baylor’s last game he had himself a double-double. He had 16 points and 10 rebounds versus Hardin-Simmons.

The sophomore center, Isaiah Austin is averaging 10.5 points per game, 4.9 rebounds a game. Against Hardin-Simmons he had 12 points, and 4 rebounds. While he has a lot of size, his numbers aren’t quite up to par. Obviously, 4.9 rebounds a game isn’t great, and that won’t do it versus the Kentucky. As we talked about, Kentucky is really strong down low and Baylor will have to really step up their game.

So, it’ll be an interesting battle in the paint, but overall, I believe Kentucky will get the better of it. Which leads me to my pick for this game.

Danny’s FREE College Basketball Pick:

All in all, I believe the Kentucky Wildcats comes out on top and covers the spread. The Wildcats just have a lot of talent. Led by Julius Randle, James Young, and Willie Cauley-Stein. I believe Kentucky will dominate down low and with that, the Wildcats will get second and third chances to score.

Kentucky is a really talented team and will continue to be dangerous as the season progresses. As these talented players continue to play as a team, they’ll just get better and better. And, really, they are gelling really fast. After losing to Michigan State, they’ve looked better and better. Baylor will be a stiff challenge, but overall, I like Kentucky to win this game and to cover the spread.

Pick: Kentucky Wildcats -3.5
