NCAA Basketball Betting – Indiana Hoosiers vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (@ Maui)

The Indiana Hoosiers (2-0 SU, 0-0 ATS) have gotten off to a good start in what could be a trying season for them when all is said and done. On Monday they will open up thing sin the Maui Invitational by taking on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) in NCAA college basketball sports betting action that is set to take place at 5:30 PM ET at the Lahaina Civic Center.

BetUS NCAA Basketball Sports Betting Odds: NOTRE DAME -15, Total 135

Here are some of the NCAA basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* IND has covered one of its last seven games
* IND has played three of its last four games UNDER the total
* IND has played seven of its last ten games OVER the total
* ND has won six of its last eight games SU
* ND has covered two of its last six games
* ND has played five of its last six games UNDER the total

Luke Harangody provided just about all of Notre Dame’s offense in last Friday’s game against Loyola-Marymount, netting 27 of the Irish’s 65 points in the eleven-point victory. Still, Notre Dame underachieved, failing to cover as a 23-point favorite.

The Hoosiers opened up with wins over Northwestern State and IUPUI, but those were just warmups. This team has a lot to overcome, not just the losses of its two best players (Eric Gordon and D.J. White), but also recruiting problems for new coach Tom Crean that was created by the Kelvin Sampson scandal from last year, not to mention dismissals and player defections.

Indiana has been unsteady with the ball, turning it over 18.5 times a game in the early going. That’s more than their assist total, and that is trouble against a Notre Dame team that is loaded with experienced performers. There are a lot of people (including myself) who consider the Irish to be a threat in this pre-season tournament, mostly because they can hit the ground running, with senior Kyle McAlarney and junior Tory Jackson in the backcourt, along with Harangody, who only won the player of the year award in what is perhaps the most competitive conference in college basketball (the Big East).

By contrast, at the outset of the season the current members of Indiana’s roster had only four collegiate starts for this program under their belts. Tijan Jobe is the junior college transfer Crean is depending on for size underneath. But he’s not a polished defender, so Harangody, who operates as well in the blocks as any player in the college game, could foul him out. There is just nobody who is going to handle Harangody. And that is where Notre Dame can continue to direct the ball with a great deal of confidence.

We’re going to go ahead and put some faith in the Irish, laying 15 points with favored Notre Dame in the BetUS NCAA college basketball sports betting odds.
