Five reasons UConn wins the 2014 NCAA Tournament

2014 NCAA Tourney Handicapping

Even though the Huskies are not the highest seed left in the field (they are a #7 while Kentucky is a #8) it seems like everyone is looking at them like they are a cinderella story. [ad-4468020]

It has certainly been impressive that they have gotten this far but do they really have what it takes to win the championship?

Lets take a look at some of the reason why they not only can but just might do it.

Shabazz, Shabazz, Shabazz

Of all the teams left none has a player like Shabazz Napier. Its not that there are not great ones on the other teams but none have a player that is their obvious go to guy who can contribute in all phases of the game with a flair for the dramatic too.

Napier is always in the action and doesn’t shy from the moment. He was also on the UConn team that cut down the nets in 2011, learning from their do everything star Kemba Walker.

Deep Backcourt

In addition to Napier the Huskies also get production from slippery Ryan Boatright and others. Boatright enables Napier to play off the ball which makes him a much more dangerous scoring threat.

The guy I am looking to step up is Omar Calhoun.

He has a very strong frosh campaign but has been a mess this season.

They need him to be productive as he gives them an athletic body to hit the glass and defend. He could be an unsung hero.

No fear of the Gator Chomp

The last team to beat Florida was UConn, which won by a point back in December. Florida is the favourite to win it all and it is ironic that the two teams that beat them this season are still alive at this point (Wisconsin is the other).

I am not going to go so far as say the Huskies have a blueprint for beating the Gators but if any team can have a little confidence against them they can.

The Right Stuff

This is the most subjective reason but with every passing round it looks like they just have it don’t they. Napier is doing a great Kembe impression but this team is really different from that one which had a dominating defensive presence inside these guys just don’t have.

This team has rose to the occasion so many times it is getting harder and harder to doubt their ability to do so.

They are not that big of an underdog really

I know they are a #7 but this UConn team was ranked for a good chunk of the season and is essentially from one of the Major conferences. They have already beaten Florida so we know they are capable of taking down the beast and have an experienced roster overall.

They definitely believe they can and we should too. At this point in the season you can throw out those numbers, right?

Below we make a case for all teams in the Final 4.
