The Alabama State Hornets square-off against the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in a first round play-in game in the East Region of this year’s NCAA Men’s Tournament. The winner will face No.1 seed Ohio State in the second round on Friday.

Game time from the University of Dayton Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on truTV.

Alabama State earned an automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament by virtue of a 65-48 win over Grambling State as a six-point favorite in the finals of the SWAC Tournament. The key win for the Hornets was a 73-66 victory over No.1 seed Texas Southern in the semifinals as a one-point underdog. They come into this game with an overall record of 17-17 SU (4-1 ATS) and 11-7 SU in the SWAC.

Tramayne Moorer and Tramaine Butler are Alabama States two leading scorers; combining for close to 41 percent of the team’s points. The Hornets are shooting 39.7 percent from the field and averaging 61 points a game. They have struggled from the free-throw line; converting on just 60.1 percent of their attempts.

Texas-San Antonio punched its ticket to the dance with a three-game run through the Southland Conference Tournament culminating with a 75-72 victory over McNeese State in the championship game. There was no published line on this game. The Roadrunners finished the season with a record of 19-13 straight-up (1-1 against the spread) and were 9-7 in conference play.

The upset over McNeese State in the finals was led by Jeromie Hill’s game-high 25 points. Three other Roadrunners scored in double-figures and Stephen Franklin had a team-high 10 rebounds in the winning effort. Texas-San Antonio is averaging 71 points and 35 rebounds a game while shooting 43.1 percent from the field.

Look for the Roadrunners to carry the momentum from their upset of McNeese State into this game to pull out the win.

The Pick: Texas-San Antonio -4
