The No. 3 Villanova Wildcats will prepare to tip off against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame on Wednesday at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA.
The Wildacts knocked off the Irish 77-60 the last time the two teams met back on March 2, 2009.
Villanova won their ninth game in a row as Scottie Reynolds helped lift his team to an 81-71 win over St. John’s on Saturday. Reynolds scored 19 points and made six of his 12 shot attempts in the win as the Wildcats improved to 7-0 in the Big East for the first time in school history. He is averaging 21.4 points and shooting 53 percent of his shots from three-point range un the Wildcats first seven Big East contests. The Wildcats have a lot of depth in the backcourt and will continue to pose a threat to.
Over in South Bend star forward Luke Harangody continues to lead the conference in scoring with a career-high 24.7 points per game. Harangody scored 24 points in an 87-77 home victory over DePaul on Saturday snapping the Irish’s two game losing skid. Tim Abromaitis scored a team-high 30 points while Ben Hansbrough had 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win. Harangody has been carrying most of the scoring load, and Tore Jackson has been solid at the point. A lack of depth has been the main problem for the Irish as they head into the toughest part of their schedule.
The Wildcats still love to live dangerously and need to start playing a solid 40 minutes of quality basketball. Notre Dame is 1-2 against teams in the top 10 this season but if they can control the boards they may be able to win a high-scoring affair. This will be a good match up as two Big East Player of the Year candidates; the Irish’s Luke Harangody and Nova’s Scottie Reynolds square off. The Irish will be the more desperate team and nothing would be more welcome than a road win at Villanova. .
