Bucknell Bison vs. Butler Bulldogs Preview

Bucknell won the Patriot League this season as well as the conference tournament and they come into the Big Dance hot winners of 7 straight games. Butler got an at large bid coming in 3rd in the Atlantic 10 conference. NCAAB lines have Butler as 3.5-point favorites with a total of 122.5.

In their last games Bucknell beat Lafayette 64-56 in the Patriot League championship game and Butler lost to St. Louis in the Atlantic 10 title game.

On the season Bucknell is 2-4 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 2-4 and Butler is 18-13-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 15-13.

Butler played a much tougher schedule on the season, as they were 3-1 this season facing ranked teams including beating a couple of Big Dance #1 seeds in Gonzaga and Indiana. The Bison lost their only game this season facing a team in the top 25.

Butler really has one goal in this game and that is trying to contain Bucknell C Mike Muscala (19 ppg 11.2 rpg). He is a 6’11” big man that scored at least 20 points in 3 of his last 5 games. [ad-6571516]

Bison guards Cameron Ayers (12.5 ppg) and Bryson Johnson (11.1 ppg) must shoot the rock well tonight and score from the outside and if they do not Butler will pack the lane in order to try to stop Muscala from having a big game.

Butler is led by G Rotnei Clarke (16.7 ppg) and C Andrew Smith (11.1 ppg 5.7 rpg). Smith will be needed on offense, but his defense facing Muscala will be even more important. The Bulldogs 2nd leading rebounder is Roosevelt Jones (10.1 ppg 5.7 rpg) and he is only 6’4″, but needs to help Smith out on the glass.

Butler has been the Cinderella of the Big Dance in the last few years and they are solid under pressure and will not buckle it under it in this game. The Bison have made it to the NCAA Tournament in 2 of the last 3 years.

This game will be held at a neutral site at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.

In some betting trends for this tournament game Bucknell is 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.

Butler is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, and they have an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 neutral site games.

Jason’s Pick: I have to go with Butler in this game, as they played a much tougher schedule and they have a more balanced team.
