College Hoops Wednesday Night – Big East Big Games

Big East Wednesday Night Preview

Three important games from the Big East get the spotlight treatment on the college basketball betting slate Wednesday night, as Georgetown looks to get on track versus South Florida, Louisville hosts Providence, and Notre Dame looks for a win in West Virginia.

Georgetown visits South Florida on Wednesday night desperate for a win. Since beginning conference play with a surprise upset win over Connecticut, the Hoyas have been dreadful with a 3-9 record. The Hoyas have been especially awful on the road where they’re 1-6 this season, with their lone win coming at UConn. Georgetown’s latest loss came over the weekend at Syracuse where they were defeated 98-94 in overtime. At least for bettor’s sake the Hoyas were a 5-point underdog on the college basketball odds and covered the spread for the first time in seven games. The only bright spot for Georgetown in the loss was that they did come back from a 16-point deficit in the second half before coming up short in overtime. Leading the Hoyas in the loss was Chris Wright with 25 points.

If the Hoyas can’t beat South Florida on Wednesday they’re in real trouble. The Bulls have only one win in their last six games and are coming off a 67-57 loss to Notre Dame as a 13-point dog. The Bulls have only beaten the Hoyas once in three meetings. That win came at home three years ago, 63-56 as a 10.5-point underdog.

Louisville returns to the court Wednesday night after an up-and-down week. The Cardinals were crushed by Notre Dame 90-57 last Thursday, but bounced back quickly with a 99-54 rout of DePaul on Sunday as a 21.5-point favorite. Preston Knowles led Louisville with 19 points, but Earl Clark was the real star in the win with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.

Providence has posted two wins in a row after getting past Rutgers 78-68 as 11.5-point favorites on Saturday. Weyinmi Efejukin scored a season-high 25 points to lead the Friars to the win. So far this season Providence has faced four ranked teams and picked up only a win against Syracuse.

The Cardinals are 3-0 straight-up and 3-0 ATS all-time versus Providence, including an 80-72 win last season as a 5.5-point road favorite.

Notre Dame appears to have finally remembered how to win having won two straight. Before putting together those back-to-back wins the Fighting Irish had stumbled in seven straight losses. On Sunday the Irish made it two in a row with a 67-57 win over South Florida as a 13-point favorite. The Irish may have finally won again, but after failing to cover the spread they dropped to 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games. Against the Bulls Luke Harangody and Kyle McAlarney each scored 19 points.

West Virginia welcomes Notre Dame on Wednesday after posting their biggest win of the season last Friday. The Mountaineers defeated Villanova 93-72 behind a career-high 43 points from Da’Sean Butler. Butler leads West Virginia in scoring, but his 43-point outburst came out of nowhere after he was held to only four points in the Mountaineers’ previous game, a 70-59 loss to Pittsburgh.

For nearly the last decade the Notre Dame versus West Virginia matchup has been totally one-sided and dominated by the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame has taken 13 of their last 14 games against the Mountaineers, including a 69-56 win last season as a 2-point home favorite. West Virginia’s only win against Notre Dame over that long span came at home three years ago when they escaped with a 71-70 win.
