After pulling off a stunning upset of second seeded UCLA, the seventh seeded Oregon Ducks will play the third seeded Washington Huskies in the Pac-10 Conference semifinals at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Oregon shocked many college basketball observers by posting a 76-59 rout of the Bruins. A victory over the Huskies would make them just the second seventh seed to reach the championship game, joining the 2003 USC Trojans.

E.J. Singler paved the way for the Ducks win over UCLA by scoring a career-best 24 points. The Bruins had four players average double digits per game for the season, yet they limited UCLA to just one player reaching double figures as the Oregon defense held the Bruins to just 35.2% from the floor.

The Huskies won their grudge match with in-state rival Washington State in come-from-behind fashion in the quarters. Trailing by as many as 13 points midway through the first half, the Huskies rallied in part because all five starters scored in double figures. Isaiah Thomas led the way with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

Thomas also dished out 11 assists in the victory. Washington will need to do a better defensive job against the Ducks and not allow a player to score 43 points as Klay Thompson did for WSU.

The Ducks and Huskies split two regular season games during the season. Washington won on their home court in early January by 18 points. However, the Ducks returned the favor by winning by five points in Eugene one month later.

Oregon would like to see more scoring from big man Joevan Catron. He averaged 15.1 PPG during the season but has only scored 18 total points in the first two games of the conference tournament.

Meanwhile, Washington freshman guard Terrence Ross has been inconsistent. In the victory in January, he scored 25 points. In the loss one month later, he had just 12 points for the Huskies.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Oregon – The Ducks have won two games without the benefit of their top scorer producing points. The Huskies emotional victory may have taken too much out of them.
