ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Baylor enters this Sweet 16 matchup at the No. 6 seed and proved itself worthy of its NCAA at-large bid with a 14-point win over Nebraska in the first round, before pounding Creighton 85-55 in the follow up round.

The Bears sprinted out to an early lead in that one, behind impressive performances from starters Isaiah Austin and Brady Heslip, each tallying 17 points apiece. Royce O’Neale added 10, with five rebounds and eight assists.

It was a shooting frenzy, as Baylor hit 60.8 percent from the floor and used its tenacious zone defense that’s held four of its last six opponents to under 70 points.

Not too shabby for a team that normally puts up just 45.2 percent shooting and allows 67.8 points on 42.6 percent shooting.

They Bears will be tested however, against Wisconsin, who was dominant at both ends of the floor in their first round of the NCAA tournament, where they destroyed American University75-35.

The Badgers followed that with a second round win over Oregon, which was not decided until the final minutes.

Wisconsin rebounded from a double-digit halftime deficit in their bout against the Ducks, behind forward Frank Kaminsky’s 19 points and five rebounds. Kaminsky leads Wisconsin with 13.6 points per game.

The Badgers play a tight defensive set and have picked up the offensive pace of late, averaging 73.9 points on 46 percent shooting and allowing 64.1 points on 43.1 percent shooting.

Whisky also shoots 37.6 percent from beyond the arc and have four players averaging at least 10.8 points per game.

Free Pick:

Baylor — While it appears that Baylor is a team that’s peaking at the right time, winning eight of its last nine game, the Badgers are more offensively charged.

However, the Badgers’ offense is a lot like Creighton, and that didn’t really pan out against Baylor’s defense did it.

I like the Bears’ defense, which should be able to limit Wisconsin’s big time scorers, and allow Baylor just enough to put some points on the board.

I’ll take Baylor and the points in this on.
