CELTICS vs. LAKERS

Time: Thursday 10:30 ET
Venue: Staples Center, Los Angeles
Spread: OFF (Bryant Injury)
Over/Under: OFF

Some say it’s complacency, others cite injuries. Most everyone agrees age is a problem. Whatever the reason, the Celtics have more than their share of issues as they try to circle the wagons for one (last?) playoff run.

The Garnett/Pierce/Allen troika restored Boston to NBA prominence, but with the warranties long expired on all three, the comparison being made these days is to the final unproductive final days of the Bird/McHale/Parish Era.

Garnett has battled a knee injury and has only a shadow of the lift he had even earlier this season, Pierce has missed games with a bad ankle and Allen no longer has enough quickness to either get free from defenders or to get his shot off without hands in his face.

Due to all of the above, Boston enters the final 32 games of the season with only a four-game lead on Toronto in the Atlantic Division and in fourth overall in the Eastern Conference. To win the playoffs title this season Boston would probably have to beat, in order, Toronto, Orlando, Cleveland and the Lakers. Any takers?

Boston is only 6-8 SU since mid-January and just 2-11-1 ATS in its last 13 games.

Betting Trends:

LA Lakers are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of the LA Lakers last 5 games
LA Lakers are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games when playing Boston
The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Boston’s last 7 games
Boston is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games when playing on the road against LA Lakers
Boston is 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games when playing LA Lakers
Boston is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
LA Lakers are 21-2 SU in their last 23 games at home

THURSDAY NIGHT BEST NBA PARLAY BET:

Denver is only 12-13 on the road this season but has played better of late and may catch the Cavs in transition without newcomer Antawn Jamison having time to learn the offense and defensive rotations, if he plays at all. The Nuggets plus-6 are a decent play, paired with the Lakers on the money line in the nigthtcap. Boston couldn’t beat the Hornets even with Chris Paul out, so LA should be able to win even if Bryant sits out again.
