Saturday Free NBA Picks (Jan. 31)

Here are some of the NBA betting trends as they relate to the four free nba picks we provide today, plus in depth matchup analysis…

BetUS NBA Basketball Sports Betting Matchup:

New Orleans Hornets (28-14 SU, 19-21-1 ATS) at San Antonio Spurs (31-14 SU, 21-23-1 ATS)

AT&T Center, San Antonio — 8:30 PM ET
(Records good through Thursday games)

Here are some of the NBA basketball head-to-head sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* SA has covered four of the last six meetings
* The last five meetings have gone UNDER the total * SA has won 10 of the last 11 meetings SU as the home team
* SA has covered seven of the last ten meetings as the home team
* Four of the last six meetings in San Antonio have gone UNDER the total
* NO has had the shooting edge in seven of the last nine meetings
* SA has had the rebounding edge in four of the last six meetings
* SA has made more three-pointers in each of the last six meetings

The Spurs have the benefit of a day off, having played on Thursday against Phoenix (winning by ten), while New Orleans is coming from a Friday date against Golden State. After a mini-slump, Tony Parker has regained his shooting touch, hitting 54% of his shots in posting 50 points over the last two games. Neither team is playing at the kind of defensive level that would guarantee it a spot in the NBA Finals, but at least San Antonio is doing well in that department at home, yielding only 94 points per game, which means they are succeeding in controlling the pace. The Hornets have been criticized for not having the kind of depth a championship team must have, and guys like Tyson Chandler and David West are hurting right now.

BetUS NBA Basketball Sports Betting Matchup:

New Jersey Nets (20-26 SU, 24-22 ATS) at Philadelphia 76ers (22-22 SU & ATS)

Wachovia Center, Philadelphia — 7 PM ET
(Records good through Thursday games)

Here are some of the NBA basketball head-to-head sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* NJ has won four of the last six meetings SU
* Five of the last seven meetings have gone UNDER the total
* NJ is 8-1-1 ATS in the last ten meetings as the road games
* PHIL has won four of the last six meetings SU as the home team
* Seven of the last eight meetings in Philadelphia have gone UNDER the total
* PHIL has had the shooting edge in six of the last eight meetings
* PHIL has had the rebounding edge in six of the last seven meetings
* NJ has made more three-pointers in five of the last six meetings

New Jersey is coming from a road game at Atlanta, but the Nets don’t seem to mind traveling all that much. They had covered 15 of 22 away games before the Atlanta clash (also 11-11 straight-up), and they’re 8-2 ATS in the second end of back-to-back games on the road this season. It’s been a little slow for Elton Brand coming back to action after injury, as he’s scored 20 points with 13 rebounds in three games. Philadelphia still doesn’t make any three-pointers (4.2 a game).

Our PREDICTION: NEW JERSEY BY 3 (cover)

BetUS NBA Basketball Sports Betting Matchup:

Utah Jazz (25-21 SU, 22-24 ATS) at Portland Trail Blazers (28-17 SU, 23-22 ATS)

Rose Garden, Portland — 10 PM ET
(Records good through Thursday games)

Here are some of the NBA basketball head-to-head sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* Four of the last six meetings have gone UNDER the total
* PORT has won and covered seven of the last nine meetings as the home team
* Eleven of the last 17 meetings in Portland have gone UNDER the total
* UTAH has had the rebounding edge in eight of the last ten meetings
* PORT has made more three-pointers in each of the last six meetings

Utah’s defense has really been suffering this season. The Jazz had allowed over 100 points in six straight games coming into the weekend, and it’s no coincidence that they had dropped six straight to the number. Utah had also lost four consecutive games without versatile performer Andrei Kirilenko, who can do a little of everything, and knows how to defend. “AK 47” is going to be out for a while, and that will be tough to overcome. Meanwhile, this is a series with a home bias lately, as the host has covered four straight.

Our PREDICTION: PORTLAND BY 15 (cover)

BetUS NBA Basketball Sports Betting Matchup:

Los Angeles Lakers (35-9 SU, 21-23 ATS) at Memphis Grizzlies (11-34 SU, 15-29-1 ATS)

FedEx Forum, Memphis — 8 PM ET
(Records good through Thursday games)

Here are some of the NBA basketball head-to-head sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* LA has won four of the last six meetings SU
* MEM has covered six of the last seven meetings
* LA has won four of the last five meetings SU as the road team
* MEM has covered six of the last eight meetings as the home team
* MEM has had the rebounding edge in five of the last seven meetings

For some reason, the Grizzlies have been troublesome for the Lakers, covering six of the last seven times these teams have played. It took a furious rally for Los Angeles to overcome a late Memphis lead when these teams met at the FedEx Forum on December 22. This is a very low period for the Grizz, however, as they have dropped 13 of their last 14 games to the number, often losing touch all too early with opponents. They have scored 100 points or more just twice during that period as well. With a coaching change having just been made (Lionel Hollins is the “interim” guy), and no point guard leadership, this is an unstable situation, O.J. Mayo’s scoring is down too, as he’s averaging just 15.4 points in his last nine games. Pau Gasol will look to improve upon his 15-point, seven-rebound effort last time out against his former team, which happened while he was ill.

Our PREDICTION: LAKERS BY 20 (cover)
