The San Antonio Spurs’ streak of dominance figures to continue Sunday as the club faces off against the woeful New Jersey Nets.
San Antonio (45-9, 33-19-2 ATS) has won five of its past six games. The team rebounded from a loss to Philadelphia with a 118-94 romp over Washington on Saturday, improving the club to 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games.
The Spurs scored just 71 points against the 76ers, but they exploded against the Wizards, racking up 72 points by halftime. Tony Parker scored 18 points in just 19 minutes of play. But while players like Parker, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Tim Duncan and George Hill are expected to contribute big numbers the team continues getting impressive efforts from DuJuan Blair. The second-year center posted 13 points and 12 rebounds against Washington, his sixth double-double in his last eight games.
New Jersey (17-38, 26-29 ATS) had a two-game winning streak snapped with Saturday’s 105-95 loss to the Knicks. The Nets failed to cover, dropping to 2-4 ATS in their last six outings.
Poor offensive play continues to crush the team. New Jersey has failed to score 100 points in any of its last seven losses, averaging just 87.7 points per game in that span. That’s not terribly surprising considering the team is second-last in scoring this season, but that number is even lower than the season average of 92.8 points per game.
San Antonio has won nine of its last 10 games against New Jersey, though the Nets managed to cover half those games against the spread. Still, it’s hard to image the Spurs sleepwalking through this one. Jersey doesn’t even have five competent starters, while the Spurs feature one of the deepest benches in the NBA. This one should get really ugly.
