Denver (41-27, 34-1-3 ATS) continues to surge despite shipping off former player Carmelo Anthony. The Nuggets are 10-2 in their past 12 games, including a four-game winning streak. They’re been even better against the spread, going 11-1 on NBA odds in that span. Denver beat Atlanta 102-87 on Wednesday.
The Nuggets are getting by with wide-open team basketball. Denver is averaging 115.7 points during the current winning streak. Nene has been the greatest benefactor of the trade, averaging 15.7 points and 9.1 points in 11 games since the deal. The center has been especially dominant over his last five outings, putting up 18.8 points and 10.2 rebounds while shooting 67.9 percent from the field.
But Nene isn’t the only one playing well. Wilson Chandler, who arrived in the Melo deal, is averaging 15.5 points and 6.7 points over his past four games. Point guard Ty Lawson is developing into a fantastic distributor, having racked up double-digit assists in four straight games; he’s averaging 16.7 points and 10.5 assists during the winning streak. To be quite honest, it’s hard to find a member of the regular rotation who’s not playing well right now.
Orlando (43-26, 29-38-2 ATS) remains painfully inconsistent. The Magic simply can’t get any momentum going; since a four-game winning streak near the end of February and early March, the club has gone just 3-4. Orlando has been disastrous on NBA odds, covering just once in its last seven outings. The Magic did beat Milwaukee 93-89 on Wednesday, though.
Turnovers have haunted the team, and it was especially bad on a recent five-game road swing. The Magic had 14 turnovers against Sacramento; 18 turnovers against Golden State; 18 turnovers against the Lakers; and 16 turnovers against the Bucks.
The active Nuggets have the perfect lineup to expose Orlando. The Magic are packed with plodders like Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu, so Denver should create plenty of opportunities in transition. Ride the Nuggets until they cool off.
