The Los Angeles Clippers have been in the news more this year than they have in more than a decade. Of course, the primary reason the Clippers are in the news so much now is the amazing skills of Blake Griffin. The team as a whole has improved greatly of late, and they have actually won seven of their last ten games. The Houston Rockets have won split their last ten games at 5-5, but two of those losses came in overtime. Houston won the only matchup of the season so far 97-92 in Los Angeles. If the Clippers are going to make a playoff run as some are suggesting, they need to start winning road games. Can the Clippers start a road streak in Houston?
The Los Angeles Clippers will be without their top scorer in this game. Eric Gordon is averaging 24 points per game, but he will be sidelined a few weeks with a wrist injury. Rookie Eric Bledsoe and Baron Davis will need to pick up the slack while Gordon is out of the lineup. Griffin suffered a minor elbow injury last night in Dallas, but he is fully expected to play in this game. Griffin is averaging 23 points and 13 rebounds per game this year. The single most impressive factor is that Griffin just keeps on improving as the season goes along. Each month this year he has improved his scoring and rebounding averages from the previous month. As a team, the Clippers have improved defensively this year, but they still need to guard the three-point shot better. They are one of the best in the league in rebounding, but they must improve their free throw shooting.
The Houston Rockets are without Yao Ming once again for the rest of the season. Houston has benefited from their offseason pickup of Kevin Martin. Martin has done a tremendous job so far this year. He is averaging 23.5 points per game, and he is hitting 41% from beyond the arc.
Luis Scola continues to improve and he is now one of the better power forwards in the NBA. Scola is shooting 50% from the floor and he averages 19 points per game. Aaron Brooks had a breakout season last year, but he has slipped a bit this year. Brooks has battled injuries quite a bit, and his scoring average has dropped by seven points per game this year. Kyle Lowry has actually been inserted into the starting lineup at the point guard spot recently, and he has done a solid job running the offense.
The Rockets are averaging 105.5 points per game this year, but their defense has been terrible. Houston is allowing opponents to shoot 47% from the floor, and they are allowing 105.2 points per game. This is a team that has struggled to get a stop when they need it most in the tight games.

The Clippers are on the back end of a back-to-back in this one. Los Angeles had a big lead, but let it go last night in Dallas. I expect the Clippers to control the boards in this one, but I don’t know if they’ll be able to stop guys like Kevin Martin and Luis Scola. I think the Rockets win a close game, but I think the over is the best play on the board.
